****Columbia University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

So is Columbia your first choice?

It’s in my top 3. Would definitely be a toss-up if I got into Brown or Pomona as well.

Hi everyone, I’m and international student, not sure about rights and wrongs! shall we reply to the likely-admitted email from Columbia, an appreciation E-mail or an email to express the happiness I am experiencing now  ?

Does a likely letter mean that I’m getting recruited for the sport that I’ve excelled in (Tennis) even if I didn’t contact a coach? Because I’d love to play for Columbia’s varsity team!! #Lions

@golrokh I don’t think responding is necessary, lots of US applicants receive the likely letters by post and I’m quite sure they don’t mail back - though Im also international so i guess i don’t know the customs either. Plus, they wshould be contacting you again soon to discuss financial aid (at least that’s what’s happened to me).

Any indian here who got likely letter

I want to post my stats (since I got a likely letter), so does anyone know where the results thread is for RD?

Stats:
ACT-34
GPA- 4.7/5
Not international
Humanities Major!

Question- Have all the scholars notifications come out?

I got an email from Columbia about “College Credit Program Updates”. I know its highly unlikely, but if you got one does that mean you got in?

@johonmilla No I think that email is targeted toward high school students and is separate from Columbia Undergrad Admissions. At the bottom it indicates that your contact info came from a test provider (ACT or CollegeBoard) and is not linked to your application.

We’ve had this discussion tons of times (more exactly, every time Columbia sent an email).

@nervous17yearold thanks!

Hey guys! A while ago I received a Likely Letter from Columbia, which of course came as a surprise. Now, before posting my stats, I’d like to really describe the place I come from to help those who feel at a disadvantage because of any reason. I live in Olive Branch, Mississippi, a suburb of Memphis. This town is small and quite average. The education I received is some of the best there is in Mississippi, but it’s still severely out of competition with any of the schools most Ivy League applicants attend. In my school in particular, Center Hill High School (Public), almost all students apply to local schools and attend those. The idea of “Ivy Leagues” and “Stanford” really doesn’t cross peoples’ minds, not even to the brightest students here. AP Classes are abysmal because of the shortened time we get to actually learn the material. “Test Prep” for exams doesn’t really exist and most students never achieve even a 4 on any. The level of courses is very low in comparison (the only language, Spanish, existing in only two levels and math going up only to Calculus AB, which most don’t take). The culture of elitism simply doesn’t exist here, and because of that, I was always afraid I was delusional applying to schools like Columbia because of the stiff competition. Frequently I’m asked where I’m attending college, but find confused faces when I say “I’m still waiting on decision” because no one has experience in THIS process. I imagine I’m not the only one in this boat, and to those who have had to do their own research, I present to you this mini-story of success. Hopefully this will encourage those who feel the pressure of disadvantage and lack of resources.

To all the likely letter recipients - when was the last time you received mail/email from Columbia? Mine was a mailed letter from the president of undergrad recruitment or something like that from a few weeks ago. They used to send me stuff everyday, but I haven’t heard from them in a while and I’m afraid they came to their senses lol

@AMCFito Congrats! I’m also planning to major in astrophysics (maybe double with econ) so its cool to see others with a similar career choice

@realityhitshard i got a “Science at Columbia” email on March 13 - doesn’t seem to be a mass email since it was in the same format as the likely letter and is an attempt for them to get me to learn more about the school. I also got a big envelope in the mail today with Columbia’s latest scientific publication and a letter detailing scientific opportunities available at Columbia. But both things probably happened since I put biology as my number 1 major choice

@captainfaker I applied for biomed engineering so many that’s why I didn’t get that. Or maybe they realized that they made a mistake with me. Welp. I’ll be on the lookout this week for correspondence.

No need to obsess over likely letters - the large majority of people who are accepted never received one.

@realityhitshard bro im sure you’re fine – columbia has already taken internal steps to ensure that sending wrong admission results will never happen again after what happened in february with one of their graduate schools
from my understanding, i got my likely letter in the second wave of likely letters. i didnt get an email again until much later. dont stress about it. you should celebrate. you got into columbia!
