@AcademiaSavvy Try this: log into Common App and click My Colleges. Then click Columbia, and look under Writing Supplement. Do both boxes have green checkmarks? And, if you click the second one, does it say you’ve submitted your supplement? It should state a date and time
Thanks @TomTanJoseR2022 You too!
For those of you who got an alumni interview, how long after you submitted your app did you hear about it, and how did you hear?
It took me like one and a half to two weeks time. But my alumni interviewer said that her deadline for interviews is the 27. But probably different for the students who have had the time extension. Applied 10-31-2017, Invited for an alumni interview 11-13-2017, and will have interview Monday 11-20-2017. Mine is like an hour and a half drive away is that far or close? I live in a suburban area.
@1984ad Yup I have all of the green arrows and it says:
You have successfully submitted your Common Application to Columbia University.
You have successfully submitted your Writing Supplement to Columbia University.
Oh wait, I requested a fee waiver do you think that may hinder the process?
@TomTanJoseR2022 How did you find out you got one?
I got an email from Columbia Undergraduate Admissions, the subject was Interview Request from Columbia.
May I ask, what part of the states are you from, Im assuming states. I’m from Massachusetts, northeast.
@AcademiaSavvy I also used a fee waiver, so I doubt it. If it says you submitted everything, and has a time stamp, then I would just wait it out for a while.
I submitted my app in mid October, and received an interview request in very early November. The request was through email, and it’s pretty random, so I wouldn’t worry if you don’t get one.

You guys I’m having a minor life crisis. I am the Stage Manager of a show that opens tomorrow, which is something that I’ve been doing and loving for six years. It may be the total lack of sleep talking, but a large enough chunk of me has decided that I really want to study it and continue to do it because I enjoy it so much and it’s so important to me. I applied as a Middle Eastern Studies Major (which I also love, but not as much as I do Tech Theatre). What do I do? I’m aware the Tech Theatre is not the place to be to make a fully stable and comfortable living, and yet, I cannot bear the thought of it not being a part of my life.
@katewithak If you wanted to, you could try emailing admissions and explaining a bit of what you said here. They’d probably be willing to change your intended major. Best of luck!
Do you think that the fact that my ED agreement was missing would hold up an interview? Somehow that was missing and now it’s finally in. Still would love to get an interview. The people Columbia said most people in the New York/New Jersey area get one but I still haven’t heard anything.
@katewithak I would look back at the application you submitted and see if it showed you as a stronger middle eastern studies major or a theatre major. If it’s middle eastern studies, I would keep your app the same, because you can always change your major when your accepted, it’s not set it stone. If you look like a theatre major in your app, I would clarify it with them. Also, it’s not like you can’t do both. Columbia has such amazing opportunities you could probably major in middle eastern studies with an interest as theatre or the other way around. What make Columbia so great is you don’t have to choose between two things, but do both.
@AcademiaSavvy @katewithak I agree with that. If you feel like you’d be portrayed in a better light with a Theatre-type major, then you could contact them.
@syog I doubt it, but I honestly wouldn’t read much into it.
Ok, life crisis over and I’ve returned to normal (i.e. still want to major in MENA studies). I just got contacted for an interview though! And, the legislative bill that I’m working on has the support of the Speaker, and we have a chif author! And I have a show to open in a few hours. Such a good day, it almost makes me feel bettr about probably getting rejected!!
@katewithak you gotta have some hope!
@TomTanJoseR2022 @1984ad I received my Columbia ID and all of my materials have been received! Phew!
@AcademicSavvy Aye! Keep us Posted!
