@rj15 CC website says Decisions Friday, December 15.
@GrusMinion can you send a link?
@1984ad Yes that would indeed be a shocking way to get the news.
@TomTanJoseR2022 I applied 10/30/17 received email from interviewer on 11/3/17 and we met for interview 11/7/17. He said to relax because his only goal was to present me to the committee in the very best light possible.
Hi everyone!! I’m an ED applicant for the class of 2022, my interview is tomorrow kind of nervous haha! Any tips?
1984ad Here’s the link: https://undergrad.admissions.columbia.edu/ask/faq/topic/406
It says on or before December 15, so perhaps they begin notifying starting that week around December 11 as was mentioned by several others earlier in this thread. Good luck to us all!
@GrusMinion That link doesn’t say that’s when decisions come out. It says decisions will come out on the 15th at the latest since it says “on or before Dec 15”
So I applied saying that I want to study Screen Writing and East Asian Studies, but I didn’t provide a portfolio or original screen play, do you think that it would look bad that I didn’t provide one? Also best of luck to everyone on your interviews and application process!
@1984ad Agreed. I was just saying that was the “true” deadline was December 15 and then dovetailing that with other comments where others in this thread indicated that people would know December 11, 12, 13, that it is likely that CC will begin contacting those accepted the week of December 11. Sorry for any confusion.
@syog My ED agreement was missing for some reason as well, but I got it in. I was contacted for an interview before it was in though and I just had it today. Maybe it’s just the area you live in that you haven’t gotten one?
Hey! So I had my interview on Wednesday, but I’m not sure if they track it or not on the portal. Should I be looking out for it, or does it count as optional material?
Good luck everyone!! x
@syog I’m from the NY/NJ area as well and have yet to be contacted for an interview I’ve kind of just given up on the possibility at this point since we are approaching the decision release so quickly!
@syog @savinglives I honestly wouldn’t worry too much about not getting an interview. Top schools mostly use interviews as a chance to engage their alumni in hopes that they will remember having a good time at Columbia and then donate to the school. While I did have an interview, for which I’m grateful, I understand that it does not count very much in the process because of how non-standardized it is and the fact that not everyone gets one.
@TomTanJoseR2022 Is screenwriting under the Film major? It probably would’ve helped if you provided a portfolio or something artistic, but that doesn’t automatically disqualify you of course. Did you have ECs in the area of film/media? Those can help.
@Kimx1719 I’m like 95% sure it counts as “optional materials.” I had my interview like 12 days ago or something and I don’t have any type of interview report noted on the checklist.
If you haven’t gotten an interview yet, hang in there! I applied on 10/27, just got offered one today on 11/19 and will be meeting her on 11/25. However, she definitely wanted to conduct it soon and said that there is not a lot of time left to complete my report before the early submission deadline.
@savinglives second! My interviewer said the latest time would be 11/24 but i had it today. It went well and he is really nice. No need to stress over it.
Hey everyone! Had my interview this past Friday over the phone with a current Junior studying abroad in France that is in the engineering school and is also majoring in French and it went very well!!! I was so nervous the entire day and fell right into a casual back and forth over the phone over the questions. I had a few questions prepared for her that she said were really good and made her think for a minute before answering so I hope she wrote a good report. Did anyone else have their interview yet?
@bagelboy i just had my interview this thursday! i think it went really well, i was so nervous too lol but the interviewer was really nice and we had a lot in common! at the end he said he thought i’d be a great fit, so i’m really happy with it
By looking at previous dates for decisions being released, they’ve chosen the first or second Thursday of December for like the past 10 years, except last year when they chose to release a bit later. That means there’s a big possibility of our decisions being released on Dec 7th. If not, I would assume they would only slightly delay it to about Dec 11th. I don’t think they would choose Dec 14th as that is typically too far into the month for their liking (according to previous data).
Just got my interview done today. My interviewer told me that Columbia was rather behind on conducting the interviews, (their deadline is next Monday, I believe) so if you haven’t gotten contacted now, it’s likely you won’t get one.
Good luck to everyone applying!
@nickyflash That sounds about right. It’s also important to remember that like 70% of apps have probably been read around this point in the month, so an interview might actually have no impact whatsoever if your application has already been thoroughly reviewed. Even if it was a great interview, it’s not likely to make any waves anyway since most interviews are great.
