@katewithak cool! im also in anatomy and we’re dissecting kidneys soon lol
I received an email for an interview on Sunday and I replied as fast as possible, but I haven’t got a reply yet… Did this happen to anyone else?
@1984ad I like to think we’ll all get in–glass is half full
@dogoogii My interviewer had told me that the reports were due by Nov. 27, so you might be out of luck
Even though a 1240 on the SAT isn’t great is it still possible to be accepted?
that’s very hard to tell… but pretty sure that they would have weed out the applicants who have a really bad GPA and SAT score initially
It seems to me that there will be those who get in with low scores or grades but demonstrate a fit or meet some criteria that provide a balance amongst incoming students that represents the schools values and goals.
When one of the CU admissions counselors visited my school, she told us that people with lower GPA’s and lower SAT scores don’t usually apply because they are intimidated, attributing to the reason why there are not many stories of people with them getting in. Even if you look at some of the data they have released in the past, (they don’t release their common data set, but they did release some SAT statistics for 2019 by score) they have people in the lower ranges getting accepted. She told us to apply even if you’re testing score are not the highest. It shouldn’t be the reason that you don’t Especially if you are a fairly well rounded person!
If case any RD people see this or any ED people would like a little piece of mind, she mentioned that seeing what you do outside of school is key. If you have something special about you, showcase it! Even if it has nothing to do with your major, she said that it helps to see what type of person you’d be on campus! (Ex. A dance portfolio for a Bio major). Their holistic approach really helps out those without that high of scores. Like GrusMinion said, if you have some aspect that provides a balance amongst incoming students that represents the schools values and goals, you have a shot. These Ivies are tricky, and the truth is it’s a shot in the dark for everyone.
I emailed my counselor today and she said that she didnt receive any letter about the Columbia release date. Has nobody else gotten this other than the first person who posted about it?
So, about this possible Dec. 14th release date… I could see it possibly being that day because even though it’s “later” compared to their previous years, they did also accept applications up until Nov. 15th for areas that were affected by the recent hurricanes, mass shootings, etc. It might have taken them slightly longer to process those ones and read through them. Just a thought!
@savinglives definitely a good point, but I think it’s also important to consider that only a small percentage of the pool probably did that and there’s like 24 admissions officers so that would only be a slight increase in applications per officer i think. i guess a Dec 14 date is in line with the “second thursday of december” rule, but i still find it pretty unusual. if they followed that rule in 2012, they would’ve released it on Dec 13, but they chose instead to release it on Dec 6, which was the first thursday of December.
something’s rubbing me the wrong way about the Dec 14 date. obviously i cant argue with it if everyone starts saying that their counselors received a letter, but as of yet i’ve only seen one person say that it’s Dec 14 so far which is why i’m a bit suspicious of it
@1984ad I mean, if they were planning on releasing next week, I think we should have gotten an email about the release day today
@savinglives I agree. I submitted on Nov. 15.
Is anyone in this thread apart of the National Academy of Finance?
My dad’s a college counselor and he says Ivy’s tend to try to release on the same day and usually it’s mid December so you can always plan on the 15th or 14th so 14th is probably right
@mysticmangoqueen that also makes sense, but if you look at past threads for ED, you’ll see lots of confused applicants because i dont think Columbia announces dates until it’s only a few days out.
In the link below, you can see the Class of 2019 on Dec 5 discussing how they called the admissions office and got info that decisions would be released on Dec 11, which is only 6 days beforehand. I’m not completely convinced that Columbia will release on the 7th this year, but I still think it’s possible that we might receive it that early
@mcpruden13 ivies only release on the same date for RD apps. this year, Cornell and UPenn will be releasing on Dec 7/8 (and Stanford too, I believe, even though it’s not an ivy), while Harvard and Yale will be releasing on Dec 12/14. There doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to when ivies release their early apps, and I think Columbia’s past dates might be a better indicator than other ivies lol but im honestly just as lost as the rest of you
i think i’m just gonna assume that the release date is the 14th just to be safe, but it would be a very pleasant gift to have it be the 7th! haha
@savinglives That is such a great point and could have impacted the amount of time needed for reviews.
@1984ad oh I gotcha that makes sense he doesn’t care about when it comes out for my sake haha he knows more for the couple of people he has as college counselees that applied RD haha
