Columbia University Transfer Fall 2011

Hey, I plan to apply to Columbia next fall as a transfer. My intended major is neuroscience.

Those who are going to apply can discuss and share opinions/stats/etc here.

Good luck to all applicants. :)

I was just about to post this type of thread actually. lol. Good luck to everyone!

I will be attempting. From a top 15 university, with strong activities and recommendations. Also competitive high school stats (got into a few ivies for frosh admissions). Only thing that might hurt will be a 3.7-3.75 GPA when applying, but this school is rigorous and I took a difficult courseload so hopefully that’ll be mitigated. I’ll also write an amazing essay.

I’m applying from BC and I have no idea what my GPA will be like. I’m pretty excited though. O and i’m also doing Neuroscience! (Physics too though…maybe.)

Where else will you be applying? I’m considering Brandeis and Vandy too.

I will actually be applying next year. I know this doesn’t help this current thread, but I’m sure the information here will be valuable for next year. Intended major is Financial Economics, if not Economics. Probably going to go visit the campus and receive an information tour in a week or so.

Good luck to those applying this year.

I’m planning on applying, but who knows if I’m good enough. My major’s anthropology. I’m from a community college and one of my professors has a former student who just transferred to Columbia last year.

I’m applying for fall of 2011. Currently have a 4.0 at Mcgill, so I’m hoping that will help. My major right now is biochemistry, but I’m a freshman and I might change it (though I’ve definitely decided on science). It’s a great school and both my cousins attended and loved it, so good luck to those who end up there :)

How interesting tsubaki. I’m in my first year at McGill too (U1) and considering a transfer to Columbia!

Applying as a transfer as well. Good luck to everyone!

Might as well start some stat compilations…
Applying for Sophomore transfer status, intended Poli Sci
33 ACT / 1 attempt
No SAT Subjects, 5s on AP History/AP Psych
4.14 college GPA - large public
3.3 high school GPA (big weakness, I know…upswing, at least)
Lots of student org leadership/internships

I’m going to end up heavily reliant on my essays and LoR to offset my HS GPA… might as well give it the old college try, I suppose.

I’ll probably be applying as well.
I’m just about to start as a second semester sophomore.

GPA: 3.9
Honors: Yes
HS GPA: 92 uw, 96 w.
SAT: 1170…

I’m hoping my GPA and extra curriculuars will balance out my SAT score.

SAT: 2200
Gpa: 3.6
transferring from a Liberal arts college (Top 3, so its rigorous)
IB score: 38

SAT: 2200
Gpa: 3.6
transferring from a Liberal arts college (Top 3, so its rigorous)
IB score: 38

SAT: 2100
GPA: 4.0
Transfer from: Emory University
HS GPA: 3.86

Is it true that if you transfer from a top 20 school with a high GPA (3.9+) its easier to get in?

SAT: 2330
GPA: 3.8
transferring from Georgetown
HS GPA: no ‘real’ GPA, but an A- student

Hey everyone. Good to see I’m not alone on this. I’ll be applying too as a sophomore.

ACT: 32
College GPA: 3.9
HS GPA: 4.8
Coming from a state university, definitely doesn’t match up to most of you here lol.

Had a pretty solid high school resume but did not apply to Columbia as a freshman. Best of luck to everybody and I’ll be more than happy to collaborate with anyone and help each other to our goals!

Sophomore at a Public Ivy; transferring to Columbia as a rising Junior.
Columbia is my first choice (I’m only applying to 2 other schools).
Got rejected back in the high school round, but I had different issues back then.
3.69 Cumulative GPA, Psychology and Biochemistry B.S. Dual major.
My GPA got hit a bit hard, but I’m actually taking about 1 senior level class a quarter, so I hope that will factor in with the rigor.

To all of you Freshmen applying as Sophomores - concentrate heavily on maintaining your GPA. You don’t necessarily need to be from a top school, but since your record is vapid, the admissions officers will really be scrutinizing your classes and GPA.

Freshman at a mildly selective state uni (avg sat ~2000).
Applied Math major
College GPA after one semester: 4.0
SAT: 2230
LOR: One is stellar from an emeritus prof (he’s my writ professor and let me read it), my math prof’s one should be generic, but he won’t say anything bad (I had a 100 average in his class).
AP: 3 (soph year), 5,5,5,5 (senior year)
HS GPA: 3.75 (3.5 first two years, 4.0 last two) at a feeder high school.
Two really stellar ECs with national rankings (as teams) and a few ok ones.

I think my reasons will be compelling. I’ve got a pretty good essay that I’m still going to work on and I know columbia like that back of my hand (I stay with my friends in their dorms like once or twice a month + I learn a ton from them).

Does anyone know anything more about the information session coming up? Or if those who go to the January one let us know how it went that would be great too :)

Yeah, I’m going to it.
They moved it to 417 IAB from Low so it must mean they’re expecting a ton of people.

my chances are pretty slim but why not give it a shot…
SAT: 2090
HS GPA: 95/100 weighted
College GPA: 3.53 :(

EC’s: couple of clubs and volunteering experience. nothing special

I think it will have to come down to my essay. I have a good reason for transferring but let’s see how it goes. good luck to everyone!
