Columbia University Transfer Fall 2011

Hey guys I’m new to the forum. But I will be a CU transfer student. Coming in as a junior and majoring in political science and or urban studies

Hi guys, I was curious if any of the waitlisted heard back yet from Columbia?

@China nope.

Does anybody know about Intl transfers within USA accepted with FA? Say 80-90% FA…? And especially junior transfers…Intended majors Math and Ecs…

I’m an international student who just completed freshman year at a Top 50 LAC school.

Hey guys, this is a very informative thread you got here  I am thinking about transferring to Columbia, can you guys please chance me?

I have realised that the science programs at my school are not for me. I do not feel that I will be intellectually stimulated or challenged. I wish to attend a larger university where there is more intensive research and more research opportunities available to me.

Chances for schools like: Columbia

Stats:
High School
GPA unweighted: 4.0, Rank: 1
SAT: 710M, 650CR, 740W should I retake?
GCSEs: 9 As and 3 As
A Levels: A in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (similar to APs but I think more rigorous)

College:
GPA: 4.0
Rank: 1/650

ECs: Photography, Intern for environmental science department, Drama, Track and Field in high school, volunteer, working in dental office, worked in lab as lab assistant (nothing amazing, I guess)

Honors: I ranked nationally (top 5) for my GCSEs and A Levels, Dean’s List at college, best freshman in Chemistry award at college

FA: I will need a lot of FA

Thanks, and I will chance you back (I’m not actually new to CC, I have been viewing the forums for about two years now).

Accepted from the waitlist for Fall 2011!

Congrats midnight13!

@midnight how were you notified?

I received an email this morning at 10:00 AM with a link to my decision. The decision letter stated the acceptance package has been sent in the mail.

It’s been a long time since I posted on this forum–so it’s good to see people still helping each other out. If there was not a match, I assure you that there are many opportunities elsewhere. What I learned from transferring is that at the end of the day, it’s really all about what you make of what you have. So if you got a “no,” it’s Columbia’s loss.

For those of you who found a match, Congratulations on transferring to Columbia. We get a lot of hate especially from Fox News, but it’s still a great school. They usually have a hundred incoming transfers every year, so you’ll have a solid group of people who will be going through the same process. I don’t have much advice, because every transfer’s experience has been different this past year. And you should be hearing from your NSOP orientation leader shortly via email in late July/early August.

This is all I can think of that might help you right now:

 1. Make sure you attend NSOP and go to the required events.
 2. Most of you will be placed in the LLC, which makes it easy to meet other people, since you live in a suite. It’s not the best dorm, and you will probably get a double, but being around other first-years and sophomores is worth it. East campus/Broadway is the holy grail for underclassmen, but only a lucky few get it. And last, most sophomores (who are not transfers) live in McBain, if you’re interested in meeting people from your class.
 3. If you can, attend the summer advising session.

I probably won’t be on this forum through much of the summer. Well, I wouldn’t worry about stuff until you have to worry about it. I found this website helpful for getting to know the school a bit better ([Main Page - WikiCU, the Columbia University wiki encyclopedia](WikiCU)), so I hope this might answer some of your questions. Choose wisely and best of luck!

Released from the waitlist today. Pumped to be heading to Northwestern instead this fall!

anyone know when we find out our housing assignment & roommates??

Someone else on here (a fellow transfer) called earlier and allegedly they said we’d find out housing sometime this week. One can only hope.

Are international applicants competing against other international applicants or just the general applicant pool? On another forum I was lead to believe that a Canadian applicant would ONLY compete against other Canadian applicants.

i’d wish you’d shut up,
posting your stats here lets other readers know the competition, what it’s like and what the school will accept,
the chance me’s give readers insight on what columbia value as an example
I’m assuming you aren’t going to be anything spectacular when you don’t realize data is data no matter what form it’s presented in
