Thought I'd share something comical with you all.......

The alma mater statue in front of Low Library doubles as a mythical matchmaker. It is rumored that the first boy to spot the owl hidden within her robes will be valedictorian, and the girl who finds it will marry him. Of Course, this is an antiquated and sexist tradition, especially many valedictorians are women, but members of the lonely hearts club seeks out this elusive owl anyway

"Barnard to bed, Columbia to wed" You'll have to come test-drive this obne yourself

Another Urban Legend:::

Probably the biggest reumor is that its in Harlem and its dangerous. Columbia does border Harlem, but its in a seperate neighborhood. Furthermore, Harlem, contrary to popular belief, is a fairly safe neighborhood-there are a lot of families there, as well as Columbia students who've spilled over slightly less-expensive housing. Acting like a snotty Ivy league kid won't make you friends in any neighborhood, but common courtesy and human respect will all but guarantee you safety =p

::Spill your guts and tell me what you think!

is this from wikipedia? You should cite wherever it's from if you're going to do a direct copy/paste.

this sounds familiar...I think maybe it's from College *******

wow, it censored that

College P r o w l e r

MLA Citation:
Lastname, Firstname. Title of Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year of Publication.

I highly doubt anybody cares about all of that. Its not that serious. Its an Urbal Legend that I read so

and plus, idontcare already stated where its from in which i agreed

I bet this thread will go from "College Urban Legends" to "How to cite a book"

Your "You cant cite a book" comment left you too wide open for a snide comment.

Your subsequent calling me of a douche bag elicited the further response and clarification.

Bottom line, you make foolish comments on this board, you should except to be harassed a little bit. :)

ummm ok...
so back to the thread:rolleyes:

yeah, i'd say those are the columbia urban legends.

You'd have to throw in one about the tunnels. There are tunnels under all the buildings, connecting them to each other - they were used to great effect during the student protests of 1968.

They had a protest?
what for?

LMAO, the first thing I saw is the picture of the men fighting each other

Plus, Columbia might as well claim the whole Harlem because of their increase expansion for their dorms and facilities. SMH

A long time ago I wasn't really a big fan of the NYPD but now I'm feeling a little bit secure about them.
