Does anyone know if meeting those requirements guarantees admission?
Also how hard is it to get 3.5GPA as cs major?

Well, I mean, there’s no guarantee that you’ll get in, like in any program that requires that you write an essay/statement of purpose and are required to have an interview. At least, that’s how I see it. This forum might not be the best to ask this question on, since most people on here are prospective freshmen, rather than people with actual experience. I’d recommend asking the same two questions on UMD’s Reddit (/r/UMD) for info from current students.

My son just completed his bachelors and masters in 5 years at Maryland (engineering). He had no problem getting the permission/graduate status for his senior year, but he also significantly exceeded the gpa (not bragging, but acknowledging that he is not a typical student) in addition to completing the other requirements for application (statement and Ietters of recommendation from college professors, etc). Note that the list states “at least” 3.5 …so if you have 3.491, I don’t think you can count on that being rounded up to 3.5.

How hard is it to get a 3.5? That depends on you and your study habits. Do the work as assigned, even if it won’t be “collected,” don’t get in the habit of missing classes…how hard you find the work is relative to your own experiences and habits. Get as high a gpa as possible right from the start because classes get increasingly difficult as you advance and it is easier in the long run to achieve the 3.5 goal if you start with close to 4.0 (Remember that there is a +/- system, so an A- means that all A’s may not mean 4.0).

And yes, you can get a good gpa and still have a social life, as long as you learn how to prioritize and find the right balance.

Maryversity, do you know how early or how many times one can apply? Right now I have a 3.5 barely but I’m worried that when I take hard CS courses, I won’t be able to maintain it. I just completed my first year plus a semester of summer classes. It’s a long shot but if I could apply now and get in, I could ensure my admission even if my GPA falls later.

Unfortunately, the earliest you can apply is your junior year (I think it was second semester of junior year).

I recommend checking red dit.com domain name is for sale. Inquire now. as there are more people as knowledgeable as maryversity.
