- I took the hardest courses I can in HS, and even took the summer courses to make room for certain classes. I'm pretty sure my counselor wrote about it.
- Basically, my Freshman and Sophomore years were a bit rough, but the 3.4-3.5 GPA got smoothed out by the Honors and AP I took
- I go to a Silver Medal Magnet High School in Nevada, probably one of the best non-private schools
- My application essays were mediocre, maybe average at best.</p>

- California Institute of Technology (I think I have an excellent supplement essay, even though the commonapp one was still mediocre)

- Princeton University
- Rice University
- Carnegie Mellon University</p>

<p>^ Are my main choices, in order. I also applied to some safeties, but I REALLY DON'T WANT THESE. At least I think they are safeties:
- Renseselaer Polytechnic Institute
- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
- Kettering University</p>

<p>Are there any other small, engineering/science colleges I can still apply to that are top tier that I missed? I prefer under 5k undergraduates.</p>

<p>That 5K limit really throws out a lot of top colleges. Off the top of my head, Hopkins is a small top tier program in chemical engineering that should be a relative match in terms of GPA/ACT. </p>

<p>But I think you’ll get into some of the schools on your list, regardless. CMU looks like the best odds.</p>

<p>Not sure why you said no to Rose Hulman very ranking and the students love it. It also has a very high engineering rate and very good support system.</p>

<p>I’d be surprised if I actually had decent ECs for Caltech/MIT, since I thought like 80% of them had 12349024 awards and whatnot. Well, a bit exaggerated, but something like that. I thought my ECs kinda sucked, to be honest.</p>

<p>cheezwhiz, Yeah, I know Rose-Hulman is great and stuff. Problem is, I hear financial aid is mediocre, plus, I don’t know how well I’d fit in with the students there. Diversity is an issue there, I hear ;s</p>
