Coming Out in High School

don't do that. if you write him off, you fail to understand how Bush was elected. i imagine thesloc as a homeschooled, very religious, conservative from either the south or the midwest. how accurate is that assessment?

Innacurate indeed; I got to a Public (yes!public!) school in the Pacific Northwest. (freshman)

thesloc, I really don't understand your logic. There is no sex in Spongebob. And any one falling in love is falling in love with someone of the opposite sex.

There is no such thing as "gay behaviour" besides "having sex with the same sex", falling in love with someone of the same sex, kissing, making out, etc.

And sexual innuendo you picked up, I missed. And I'm sure many kids watching the show wouldn't have noticed it either.

And believe me I have plenty of politics evidence to show that gay marriage was key to the election. Dont argue politics with me unless you really want a battle and I dont think either of us have time for it.

In fact I live in the suburbs in Atlanta, one of the most pompous and conservative districts in the nation(albeit more fiscally than socially conservative but we have our share).

quitejaded: Let me ask you, have you watched it? Not just one episode, but numerously. Of course there's no sex, but If the Sponge was dressing like a female and behaving like a housewife? Or him putting on "coral blue #56" lipstick? Certainly; this draws curiosity to young children about the opposite sex....

Not that I hate the show, (it's funny), but when things like this happen on a kids show; it makes me wonder.....

Oh cmon the show is supposed to be funny, not have some subliminal message advocating the power of Gays. Just give homosexuals a chance, they are people too and have the same rights as you and me.

Alright I have to go, im done.

Oh, thesloc. I used to watch spongebob every chance I got. Are you talking about the episode where he serves Squidward. Either these kids have a high sense of sexual innuedo humour or I'm very slow. Because I only saw it as funny. All the girly things he does. Lifting teddy bear weights, the eyelashes, it was all humor to me. Spongebob is an odd fellow and that's the way he was created to be. You honestly think the creators made him with the intentions of making him a gay sponge? What in the world makes you think a kid sees an absolute oddball like Spongebob and think "ITS COOL TO BE HOMOSEXUAL!"???

And this is nickelodeon. The show with stupid shows like Catdog and whatever else they had.

If you're going to be blaming any cartoon of being gay, atleast make it a disney one. I mean, there is actual proof of sexual content in those ones.

"i imagine thesloc as a homeschooled, very religious, conservative from either the south or the midwest."

In other words, some crazy Christian fanatic from the Deep South or the mid-west?

What if you're a Muslim living in Saudi Arabia? I think it's safe to say that Islam doesn't promote homosexuality but is in fact openly against homosexual behavior. What if you're a Hindu person living in India? While there aren't any especial, particular anti-gay sentiments expressed within the sacred texts of the religion, I think it's safe to say that people who practice Hinduism aren't all pro-gay either. What if you're an Orthodox Jew living in Israel? I think it's safe to say that you're not going to be terribly pro-gay either.

It's unfair that people always associate anti-gay feelings with Christians living in Alabama or something. Come on guys. Give the other MAJOR world religions-- Judaism, Islam for instance-- a chance to be derided for their anti-gay feelings, too.

Talk about hypocritical. "Don't oppress and stereotype gays, but of course WE can stereotype every single anti-gay person as being uneducated, rural and sheltered... and Christian, of course. But we wouldn't dare insult Jews, Muslims etc."

no, i actually assumed that from his beliefs on creationism.

and i apologize for the incorrect assumption.

and ryan - gay marriage was a microcosm over the overarching anger conservatives felt about morality in general.

like which? Lion King or something?

Haha! I'm also talking about some of the tv shows, cartoons and whatever else they have. Where "I like him" topics are repeated over and over and over and sex is/can be implied.

Man; we assume that these shows are meant to be stupid..but some kids don't know what an "assumption" is. While incorporating laughs and whatnot; there's a bit of "Gay" in there.

"So if you are born with a high IQ should you purposely try to suppress it? What about if you are born with great looks, do you need to purposely make yourself ugly just to fit in with the average american?"

Don't kid yourself. Being born with a high IQ or being born to develop an attractive face are not moral issues. It has widely been -- and has ALWAYS been-- considered a moral issue to act upon homosexual urges.

You're arguing that suppressing born-good looks is comparable and can be put under the same principle as supressing born-homosexual urges. One is non-moral, the other is overtly moral to a lot of people (like alcoholism and drugs are). So don't try and bring up the high IQ or beauty or red hair argument just because they also happen to be genetic.

Don't try to compare apples and oranges just because they both come from trees.

haha OP donkeyz12212, can you say "hot-button topic"

Everyone is getting so worked up about this...

I can only say that although religion deems homosexual acts wrong, we are taught to treat homosexual people like everyone else.. we love them like the sinners we all are.. they simply have a different sin.

And as for someone saying that you cant tell a gay person just by looking at them...because all gays arent fashionable... I'll tell you this - I can smell the gay on any man. If I like him, he's gay. Of course there are gay guys I don't like, but I can spot those too.

haha moni, thats money!

Hey Quitejaded; do you remember the episode where Patrick and Spongebob found a clam (or "underwater bird")? Lol; that was the gayest show ever, spongebob was wearing head curls, and was also wearing "mom" robe...near the end of the show, the clam goes away, and Patrick says "Wanna have another one?" to Spongebob
