Hey guys! I got accepted to both UCSD and Syracuse newhouse for communications, but I don’t know which one is better…
whenever I read, syracuse seems like this great program, really renowned for comm etc etc
yet, it is not in any ranskings (not that it’s all i care about, but it’s odd when one website says it’s the best program in the nation and then it’s not even on the top 100; plus, its kinda important to my parents)
…plus its really really cold
ucsd on the other hand, doesn’t have as much school spirit etc as syracuse, but its program is in the ranskings for comm, and pretty high (like 17, 45, etc). still, i dont know about the colleges actual reputation in that department, as i know the science departments are more famous.
++ i like the area and climate around ucsd much better
Newhouse is highly regarded. I’ve never checked ranking because I loved it upon visiting, but I don’t see how it doesn’t show up. If you need any proof they have a room within one of the comm buildings that is just covered wall to wall with pictures of people who have done amazing things after graduating. If you want to go into sports a majority of people who work for ESPN are Newhouse graduates. I would do some research outside of rankings because sometimes ranking value arbitrary things.
Also consider what climate you want and what coast you might prefer to work on. Obviously Syracuse is going to be much colder than any UC, so be prepared for that. They’re also different coasts, and I know Syracuse has many connections out West, with UCSD you would be there for the four years instead of closer to New York. I mean you could end up on either coast anyway, but people always say it’s something to consider.
