i decided to look at syracuse for communications and visited the campus and liked the size and academic courses. BUT i hear the winters are awful! is syracuse worth going to oppose to USC or UCSB? i am from southern california and use to the heat

I’m attending Newhouse in the fall as an incoming freshman. I"m from Southern California as well!! USC Annenberg and Syracuse Newhouse both have strong communications programs. But according to people in the communication industry and national rankings, Newhouse may be the better choice. Newhouse has amazing connections from what I’ve heard and seen. I say don’t consider UCSB unless it is your last resort. Despite what I also hear about the horrible winters, I’m going to weather it out and attend the prestigious Newhouse! I just couldn’t give up the opportunity just for the weather…

Good luck with college application process!

You’ll live. Weather is only one variable. Lay out your priorities for what you want in a school and look at the entire portfolio of pros and cons.

I’m from southern California too. Just graduated from Newhouse, landed a great job in my field, and have a strong network stemming from many alumni connections. I’m more than happy with my decision to go to SU, despite the fact that I was freezing throughout much of the year. Best of luck with your search!

huxicon: have fun! Have you declared a major?

Feel free to DM. I don’t frequent these discussions as much as I used to, but I’m available for any information/advice.

This school has changed… It is a money hungry school that does not respect students or traditions… The weather is the very very cold and no sun. Do not waste your time or money. So many better alternatives…
