Friday will be busy -breakfast at Tulane, lunch at Commander's Palace, shopping on Magazine Street, pep rally, auction, fireworks.....

I'd say comfortable clothes and shoes to get through it. But I'm a little concerned that Commander's Palace will require something more dressy than I'd typically wear for a day on campus and shopping.
I'm staying in the French Quarter, so no time for a change.

Those who know the city well - would we be welcomed at CP in shorts and flip flops?

Thanks.

Yeah, I didnt know how CP would handle the whole tour thing in reference to dress code. They require jackets for men at dinner. Wouldnt think shorts and flip flops would fly there at any time.

Agreed, it would not be appropriate. Also, Magazine Street can mean a lot of walking. I am not a flip flops wearer, but I was under the impression that they aren’t very conducive to long walks.

We celebrated S’s Tulane graduation weekend with a meal at CP. One thing I clearly remember is at least for dinner, no shorts for men. I sent out a warning to our rather large family descending on NOLA that this was the case, since we all tend to be a casual bunch. I found this info on their website and although I haven’t looked lately, dig around on the site. You’ll probably find the dress code details. Because I had such a large party and worked with them over the phone, I also confirmed this info directly with the staff one of the times I called.

When this event was announced I thought it might be fun. Then I started thinking…shopping on magazine, October temps, DD’s teenage siblings. Couldnt imagine how this could be done comfortably in Commanders appropriate dress so I soon gave up the idea.

I was told that the young men could “do” with a collared shirt and khakis - I think they understand that many college students do not bring a sports coat. That said, mine will be wearing jackets (I’m that kind of mom much to my husband and son’s chagrin!)

My husband & I just had lunch at Commander’s on the Friday before move-in. About 25% of the men there had on jackets. It was more of a smart casual look – but I saw no shorts and no rubber flip flops.

No shorts, no flip flops. Lunch can be casual, men should absolutely have some kind of collar. If you don’t already have reservations you need to make them ASAP bc every family will be trying to get in there on Friday.

I’ve NEVER seen a pair of shorts or flip-flops at CP. 'Nuff said.
