I am confused about Tisch. Two students I know well say that they have been accepted to Tisch with no studio assignment yet. From some of these posts it appears that Tisch has not officially sent out acceptances. Can someone clarify?

Tisch has not sent out the OFFICIAL admissions decisions yet and will do so close to April 1. However, Tisch has notified SOME selected admitted students (not all who will be admitted) by sending them an invitation to an open house for accepted students (called Saturday in the Square) on April 5. They sent these invitations out very recently so that those who wish to attend have time to make arrangements and not wait for the official acceptance letter which comes approximately April 1. And so yes, the students you know who say they have been accepted, are accepted because they received this invitation from Tisch for an event for accepted students, even though official decision letters are not yet mailed. You can still be admitted to Tisch when letters come out later this month even if not invited to Saturday in the Square.

soozie - to further confuse the issue :), NYU is now also sending out invitations for local receptions with info sessions for those who are accepted (ED & RD) and cannot travel :). The envelope reads on the outside "Congratulations" and has location & RSVP information.

That's cool. Some colleges do that and I'm glad to hear that this is happening in some locations.

For a student who has NEVER visited the university, I think it is important to go visit now before deciding. If you have already visited, then this get together locally could be really nice to do!

You live in a major metropolitan area. I have to say that I really doubt such a reception for admitted Tisch students would happen in my state! :D

Thanks for letting people know.

PS....are these local receptions Tisch or NYU ones? You wrote NYU. Saturday is the Square is a TISCH event which has a different feel and the information is different as well than for an all NYU event. Local receptions for accepted students are common for some universities including my alma mater.

This is an NYU invite, but apparently there will be a Tisch rep on hand; and I just learned that someone else (RD CAS) received something similar and that a CAS rep would be on hand. I guess they are extending their regional marketing efforts, and try to tailor these sessions somewhat to their applicant pool :).

OK, so it is not a Tisch event. Again, many universities hold receptions regionally for accepted students to help them during this decision making period or in the case of ED students, a chance to meet some others who may end up attending the university. Often some alumni or current students could be in attendence as well.

My alma matter has open house events on campus for admitted students in April. However, there are local receptions as well and alumni often help to organize these. This is common with universities. It woull be nice to go to (and meet other prospies) but is different than a visit to the school, or in this case, a Tisch run event with the various TISCH deans, faculty and current student reps (from various studios, etc.) doing presentations and mingling, which is the case at Saturday in the Square (for anyone considering going).

MTgrlsmom--
Curious about the local Tisch reception thing for people who cannot travel. Wonder how they know in advance that you can't travel in order to send you the local event invite? If you didn't get this does that mean you're definitely out of the running at Tisch. It's hard enough not to get the Saturday @ the Square thingy--now there's another thing my student didn't receive? This is going to be the longest two weeks of my life!

Lauriemom, the local receptions are not Tisch events. Not sure if those invited are different than those in RD invited to NYC. You could ask the school. I do know that you can get accepted to Tisch without an invitation to Saturday in the Square.

Yes, NYU seems also to be sending out invitations to events held regionally. Apparently, this is not (as some said above) a Tisch thing exclusively. It seems to be for kids who cannot, for whatever reason, travel to New York.

lauriemom - it just says on the invitation that you are invited to join a local info session if you are not planning to travel to NYU this spring (it does not really know per se if you are able to or not). It basically invites people that are accepted to a local gathering of people who have been accepted, where you will be able to ask more questions (if you have them).

It is very well possible that this invitation is being sent out in waves to admitted ED students, admitted RD students, who also got their Saturday In the Square or other school specific early invites (my D has a friends who got both invites, one for the info session in NY and one for a local gathering), and subsequently to those who are admitted later. In other words, no need to worry, there are still lots of notifications forthcoming :D.

I know of a senior who did not get into Indiana but did get into CMU, so go figure. She is a soprano, and someone else mentioned to me that there are so many high sopranos out there that it is harder for them due to so much competition for that one type of singer. I have no idea, my D is a sophomore and MT is her dream. This is the most informative and so far supportive website I have seen. I look forward to reading all the info and advice for the next two years.

I'm glad that I read this thread again. My D and I had sworn off CC for a few days as the stress was just getting to us and though CC has been more than helpful, the couple of days off did help. She had 3 rejections in a row, CCM, Otterbein and Penn State so her spirits were flagging. A deferral to UMich and a callback to Minnesota were huge. Then on Friday she received her Congratulations letter to NYU - When I called her to tell her the news she started dancing in the streets of Elon where she had just completed her last audition. (We found out today she was accepted there as well for acting.) We didn't even realize about the Saturday in the square event - so thank you for the info. Thanks also everyone for all the encouraging words - everyone keeps saying you will end up in the right place - We still don't know where that is, but at least there are options! Best of luck to everyone out there still awaiting an acceptance! Try and keep the faith!!!

I would like to echo UAmom's sentiments to keep the faith as difficult as it may be to right now. My D's first notifications were 3 rejections in a row ... boom ... boom... boom. It was awful and she was VERY discouraged. In the last 4 days, she has received 3 acceptances and a role in a summer community theatre musical, her first community theatre venture. It can and does happen so hang in. Honestly, I thought she was not going to get into any of the programs. The encouraging words and wonderful stories from everyone on CC were so tremendously helpful. You're all my therapists!! Thank you!!!!

i got rejected from all 4 of the schools i had to audition for. but i got accepted to columbia college chicago. see you all at unifieds in chicago next year.

motter3, does this mean you are going to Columbia College, or that you are not going and will reaudition at the Chicago Unifieds next year, or both (you are enrolling at CC-Chicago and will reaudition for other programs next year)?
I am so sorry to hear about all the "no's" you have had to handle. You might find it useful to read upthread where I believe a woman with the screen name cmujohanna's mom posted her D's amazing story of not getting into any (I hope I am remembering this correctly) programs the first year and then hitting the ball outa the park the next year and ending up at CMU. So it can and does happen. Please remember that and that there are different paths to the same destination. But I did want to say I sympathize with how you feel, sweetie.

Very well said. NotMomaRose. I too know how you feel motter3.

The last week has been a whirlwind. My D has received 2 rejections at her top 2 school choices. Then came an offer and scholarship in "Acting" from Shenandoah. She called being sure this was a mistake because she auditioned for MT and had never expressed any interest in the Acting program. She was told on the phone she did not meet the requirements for the MT program but they loved her acting. We were first shocked but then somewhat amused especially because she remembered stumbling over a word in her monologue. Had the offer been in dance or vocal music (her stronger areas) it might have made some sense. I'm beginning to think there is no rhyme or reason to any of this! We have 2 more schools to hear from around April 1. It will be a long 2 weeks.........

My D and I were so excited to know from the site that decisions have been been posted at Ithaca and we hadn't seen a rejection notice - so we logged into the site and found out that her application was missing even though we had paid the fee on December 12th and noted submitted on the Common App website. So we thought maybe it was just a problem with their website, but I called this morning and the admissions counselor confirmed that there was no application even though she knew my daughter's full name, address, and birthday all things that would have been listed on an applications. She flatly suggested that she could refund our application fee.

Seemed that she could care less that we travelled 500 miles in a snow storm passing several cars that had swerved off the road into a ditch (thank god I had my Jeep), had to stop off at a motel because we couldn't make it Ithaca, get up at 5:00 the next morning to finish the trip.

After another call my husband was able to ascertain that at least the theater department had done their job and had chosen not to recommend her for the program, but unless we would have called several times, we would have never received any notification. So thanks to the wonderful admissions staff at Ithaca.

Karen, what a terrible set of events, I am so sorry that you and your D had to go through all of that, I know it must be so discouraging. It's been said a lot before, but it is true, things will work out in the end.

{{{Karenteic}}}} I am so sorry to hear that.

For those who are reading this post and may be juniors....PLEASE know that a very very very important step in your admissions process is to call every school on your list (unless they have an online status notification system) a few weeks after submitting your application and check on whether your file is complete and that ALL materials have been received, etc. Nobody is going to care as much as you do about your process and it is imperative to check in with schools to know that they have everything. Some schools do notify you when pieces are missing or have an online status where you can check. But in the end, you have to be proactive and check in with every school a few weeks after things were sent. My kids did this with every school and I have it on the time line for all of my students. Many schools can be missing pieces even if you sent them. I can't tell you how many people have had this happen at schools. I even had a BFA program in my D's case who had no record of her audition appointment even though I had a print out of a confirmation and a payment. Please be the one to check and not wait for them to contact you if things are missing. Some schools are good about contacting you and some are not. Some rely on you checking your individual status on their online system. But in the end, it falls on the applicant to check because nobody will care about this as much as you do and this is just a necessary step.

Karen...again, I am very sorry to hear this. Thankfully, the loss of the application didn't impede her acceptance into the BFA but again, I am sure it is disconcerting.

My husband actually suggested a journal or spreadsheet to keep track of it all. For each school, we kept track of the dates that applications and their corresponding documentation were sent/requested to be sent. As a matter of fact, I panicked last week, afraid that Elon admissions had not gotten one of my son's documents, and was able to go back to our log and see the exact date it was mailed. They had gotten it, but it was reassuring for me to go back to that log and see when it was done. And with so many recommendation letters to do, it was nice to able to refer to our log to see which teacher we had requested to do what for which school, because when you are doing several schools, it's hard to keep track of it all in your head.
