I'm trying to upload my personal essay (and additional information doc, but that's less important) and it says "invalid file." I've gone to the help section and done EVERYTHING it said (lowercase letters, 10 characters, convert to 1997-2003 file type)...I've even saved it with a ".doc" in the file name. Nothing is working! This is a totally normal Dell computer with Windows XP... I've never had ANY problem uploading Word docs before! In fact, when I sent in my Harvard app, I uploaded it to the Common App no problem! It is for some reason not working today...

Any tips?

Just so you know, this is for one of the "additional versions" thingies that you have to create in order to send multiple versions of the Common App (the one I sent for Harvard is not the one I'm sending for Princeton).

I'd send an e-mail to the CA help team. My son had to send one and he got a response quickly. First he got some references to help topics with a note to reply if they didn't help. They didn't and when he sent the reply he quickly got a personal response that solved the problem.

Let us know what solution works. I'll bet you aren't the only one to run into this.

The only person here who knows what they're talking about is spiffystars.

All you need to do is log out, wait about a minute, and log back in. This problem has happened to me 3 times and I resolved it all three times by doing the aforementioned.

Yes, thanks for asking! I emailed the support team and they quickly responded. Apparently I had my pop-up blocker enabled and when you have created additional versions you can't have your pop-up blocker on. (Or maybe you can't ever have it on... I don't know.)

Glad it worked out and that application is DONE! I haven't been over to the Common Application thread, but if you haven't already you might want to post your problem and solution in case someone else runs into it. Good luck with all your applications!

DD uploaded her word document to another comm app(new version) fine. She did have her pop up enabled. When she had to print she turned the pop-up temporary off.
