Common Application Deadline - Submitted by October 31st, 11:59PM, or November 1st, 11:59PM?

Sorry about this question, as you’ve probably seen (and will continue to see) this pop up many times. I just wanted to get a final, definitive answer.

I’ve looked around other threads and it seems like November 1st, 11:59PM is the general consensus for EA/ED applicants.

Could you guys confirm that this is the case, and I have until Sunday, November 1st at 11:59PM to submit my application, instead of Saturday, October 31st at 11:59PM? Any sources, whether they’re from the CommonApp website, university websites, or other CC threads would be much appreciated.

And just a word of advice: Regardless of the date, do not be that guy/girl that submits at 11:59PM the night it’s due - it’s much better to have a spelling/grammar mistake here or there than to not have an application at all!

Thanks!

If the school’s site says the deadline is Nov 1, that means Nov 1 (by 11:59 on 11/1).
If the school’s site says BY November 1, that still means Nov 1.

If the school’s site says BEFORE November 1, well, that means BEFORE Nov 1 (by 11:59 on 10/31)…but I don’t really think any schools do this. The date they publish is the date they want the application by. They refer to/publish this date in multiple locations, they don’t want confusion as to whether an app actually needs to be there the day before; that wouldn’t make any sense.

Cornell example:
On the “Early Decision” page:

On the “Application Timeline” page:

(note they actually say “postmark deadline”).

Check school’s site. All the information is there, and it is usually very clear.
