Common Application

I took Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 and French 1 all in Middle School and all required for graduation as mentioned on My transcript. Where and how do I report it on My Common App? Thanks

List in the “other courses” section

In other courses, one has to select a school where those courses were taken. I tried to add my middle school to the list of schools but it doesn’t prepopulate because it was infact a middle school. what I might do is to just choose the option " i cant find my high school" and them just add my middle school. i hope im not making it too confusing for the AO

That’s the right way to do it. It is not confusing for AOs.

Do we need to mention the courses taken in middle school, like Spanish 1 or Common core Math 9 (9th grade math taken in 8th grade) on the common app? Doesn’t the fact that the high school let my student take the next-in-the-sequence classes automatically imply that the student has finished prior to high school?

My S22 took Spanish 3 in the summer after 9th grade from an online private high school. This was listed on his high school transcript in a separate box under that inline high school’s name showing that it is taken summer after 9th grade. Since it is already mentioned on his high school transcript, do we need to enter it separately somewhere else?

If the college requires the applicant to fill out the Courses and Grades section, which few do, and if the HS gave credit for the MS courses and listed on the transcript, then yes, the MS courses should be listed. If the HS did not give credit and does not list in the transcript, then no. If the college does not require the Courses and Grades section, don’t fill it out

Thank you. So in our case, HS did not list the MS classes on its transcript, but let us take the next level class, like Math 2 in 9th grade and Spanish 2 since finished the Spanish 1 while in MS. University of California asks for any Math or language other than English classes finished in 7th and 8th grade.

OP asked about the Common App, which UC does not use. If UC instructions differ, obviously follow those.

Okhay, makes sense.

I know this is a bit older of a thread, but relevant to my son. He took Algebra 1 and Spanish 1 in middle school, and it is listed on his HS transcript. UMD wants a self report of grades and specifically asks about classes taken at other schools besides the high school, and gives an example of middle school. He can list the classes, but the “school where taken” prepopulates to his high school and he can’t figure out how to change it, and neither can we. His guidance counselor says he doesn’t need to report those classes since they’re on his transcript, but I’m thinking he does need to report them, and maybe just leave the high school, since if he is accepted, they will see the transcript anyway and on the transcript it clearly says 8th grade, and lists the name of the middle school. Does that seem right?

The Common App answers your question: the are listed under the HS. The aMS name does not need to be added.

Thanks! We did not notice the area to ask questions!

No problem. Happy to help.
