Did you guys hear about the changed policy? Now you can make alternative versions of your app after you send it to one institution on CommonApp.org. This way, you can include in your essay why you want to go a specific school, or something. Just implemented today the 19th.

Let us know how it works if you try it! I mights just be applying reg all....

So we are close to "submitting" for my D's early action school. For other schools we may want to make some revisions re: majors, possible careers, and whether to include all ACT's or just the lastest (if she retakes in Oct.)

So here's my question....she has all of her schools listed on the common application and has begun entering essays, etc. for supplements....so if we hit "submit"..... are we going to be able to just choose just the early action school from her list of 7....or should the other schools be taken off her list since we don't want to submit this first version???

I assume that if we delete the other schools all the info she entered would be deleted.

Thanks! I guess the short question is: what happens after you hit submit!?

that's my basic question: Since my daughter was working on the supplements already I would hate to have to delete all the schools but the first one she is submitting...

When you hit submit and have a list of schools, does it automatically go to all those schools, or does this update allow you to chose the schools to send the first version to?

Rob Killian, executive director of the Common Application, has let counselors know that they expect to adjust their system today (Friday) to allow students to make changes to the Common Application in between submissions to colleges. In an email to counselors, Killian said, "If you knew how it worked last year, you'll know how it works on Friday." Last year, students were able to change all parts of the Common Application in between submissions, including essays.

However, the instructions on the Common App site have not yet been changed to reflect this, and Killian has not issued an announcement saying that the change has been made yet. He did say that they are still working on a FAQ posting for counselors and users and did not give a date for issuing the FAQ.

So, bottomline for those who might want to make changes in between submissions: I'd wait a day or so for final confirmation that the change has been made before submitting the application.

uh, the confirmation has already been made! its on the "instructions" part of the commonapp, where it says alternative versions. that means in the alternate version, you CAN change the essay and stuff. you dont need to wait for an announcement to see that it's already usable...

"All data from your original version of your Common Application will be transferred to your alternate version, with the exception of any documents that you uploaded. You may edit any of this information before you submit it to another institution."

Doesn't this basically mean you can change anything BUT the essays? Since you'll obviously be uploading your essays...

yeah i dont get this.
When I click "submit" it is being submitted to ALL the schools I am applying to via commonapp.org or if it is only being submitted to one of the schools?

if this makes it easier to understand...
i want to submit two separate essays, 1 for boston college and 1 for harvard. BOTH use the common app. BC's deadline is Nov 1, Harvard's is Jan 1. so i need to submit my BC app very soon, with an essay that is slightly different from my harvard essay. how can i do this?

nothing.
except i would assume your account information/email. why would you change that anywyas? so yeah..just try it out for yourselves people.
