Hi all,

So my recommenders have all had various problems with using the CommonApp.

Over the past 3 months (that's how long I've been bugging them) I finally have the recommendations I need.

However, at the moment two extra recommendations that I want are currently at a "started" status but not "submitted", when both recommenders have told me that they've submitted their recommendation.

I want to meet the EA deadline... if the status does not change from "started", will the recommendation still get to the university? What's going on...

It really should say ‘submitted’ if they’ve done everything properly, but it might be a common app glitch. The only sure way to know is for you to go ahead and submit your app even though they don’t say 'submitted." (That’s fine to do no matter what the situation.)

Once you submit the app, after a couple days contact a school directly and ask them if they received the recommendations. If not, they your teachers might end up having to submit them by email or fax or some other way.

In any event, don’t stress about the recs being in before the early deadline. Even in years without a glitchy new common app, schools provide a little flexibility in deadlines for recommendations. All common app schools are going to be somewhat flexible this year about deadlines.
