Commuity Service Hours

How many hours do you have? Is 1200 hours going to look crazy to admissions if it is validated with community service awards and mentions on rec's?

1200 hours isn't crazy.. if you've actually done that much. However, don't put in that you spent 500 hours on athletics and 750 hours on piano as well, because then it'll start to sound bogus. If it is 100% truth that you spent that much time on stuff, and you can be consistent through your essays, recs, etc. then it should be fine.

That's part of the problem...I do an activity that requires 20 hours a week, but a lot of my community service comes from that activity. I don't know if they'll realize there is an overlap or if they will think it's too much. In the activities section I put 20 hours to the activity and 6 hours to community service, but on my attached resume I have over 1200 hrs for comm serv which includes some of both.

is there a way that you can make that overlap clear in the application? i have the same problem as you (except way less hours, 400) but i'm making it clear that those hours sometimes include my ec hours as well

I already sent in my app for ED. I can correct it in the other ones, but this one is gone and I'm worried that it will lead to a rejection if they question it. Anyone else have 1000+ comm serv with other time consuming EC's?

you know you are double dipping, so just be honest

of the 20 hours, 16 were for this, 4 for this

what CS is not purely CS?

for instance are you a dancer, that does shows for nursing homes?

practice doesn't count as CS in that case

a mucisian that plays for kids?

practice doesn't count as CS either

only the shows do, so no overlap

so if you are saying 20 hours to EC, and 6 to CS, that is 26 hours, and you know in your gut that is wrong to present it that way

I get that part of that 20 is CS, but you can't get 26 hours down on paper like that that is dishonest

It would be easier to help if you told us what that EC was.
