communications at usc?

which school has the better communications program, usc or ucla> i've heard that usc is better, but ucla's is a lot harder to get into.

USC has the better comm. program, but I've heard that UCLA's a bit more competitive.

USC and UPenn have ecelent comm. The Annenberg Schools of Communication are very good.

that's weird; if usc's program is better than ucla's, then why is ucla's more competitive?

^^

like someone else said, because it's wierd, could have something to do with UCLA's public system, even though that's more for general admissions not program admissions, but i had heard from some UCLA people albeit it is competitive it's not very tough once you're in.

as for USC, i beleive it's one of the top 5, the only other of which i know is Newhouse because my brother went there.

UCLA, like with its bizecon program, purposefully impacts it so that only the better students get in. Why you would deny a major to anyone, especially at a public school is beyond me. Of course, the general idea is that it increases the quality of the pgoram by letting in only the best students. This is true, yet whether there's an ulterior motive here in terms of Annenberg-envy is anyone's guess.

Furthermore, I heard from an Anneberg friend that USC Annenberg professors poke fun at UCLA Comm. Apparently, every time a school's comm department/school is up for being re-accredited, one tenet of this is to prove to the accrediting board "why communications is a useful major." Apparently, some years ago, UCLA was not able to do this and lost its comm major for awhile. Again, this is per word-of-mouth so I cannot verify it. Just something to consider (though with a grain of salt).

Its a state school. It wants to try and be more competative to compete with provate schools. However, they dont need to compete the school is realy good. But USC is BETTER. UO Arch department is the same way. They have an extremely selective admissions. But its not all that super. Its great but USC is better

Meh, the talking smak about the schools is common. My next door neighbor use to be the head inetmural sports director at UCLA, its fun talking about school with them. I was given a UCLA shirt so when I come over with my USC shirt, I know I need to turn home and get the other shirt to make up and be able to go inside. LOL

UCLA may have more people applying because it's a public school and students apply to all the UC's at once.
