Transfer!

Has anyone on CC successfully transferred to Yale?

I know it's insanely hard but I'm going to be a soph next year and want to transfer. Any pro-tips/experiences? :)

I think I have a decent application..as decent as any transfer app gets, haha.

Also - I was accepted to Yale last year..but I didn't attend because I had another favorite then.

You need a very specific reason why you need to go to Yale (and not any other college). Something we offer that you can’t get anywhere else.

No CC members reported being accepted for fall 2009, there were 3 accepted for fall 2008. You can search this forum and read the current Y thread on the Transfer Students forum for information on past applicants and results.

D1 was accepted as a fr but decided to attend a different college on a scholarship, she transferred to Y as a soph. You’ll need the usual factors (top grades, hard courses, college ECs, etc.) plus a good reason to transfer. Try to take some small classes so that you can participate and get to know the instructors well enough for them to write a strong LOR.

Oh she did? Wow, that’s awesome. They accept around 20-30 kids every year, right?

Did she have any problems transferring…like socially?

Y accepted 18 transfers last fall and 24 the year before, it just depends on how many students leave and what the housing situation is.

It really helped her to attend the Focus program the week before school started. She met many other transfers who seem to be the core of her social circle. Her suite placement was good but not great, that’s kind of just the luck of the draw for transfers I think. She’s met other people through classes in her major, as well as clubs and other ECs.

Did any transfer students on CC get accepted this year?

When do you guys find out?

@entomom: Thanks!

So far there have been 2 CC members accepted to Yale this year, myself included.

I think the reasons I got in include my college GPA, great recs from professors I knew well and had spent a lot of time with, and my essays. I tried to show 2 different sides of myself and how they connected, and I also made it very clear that I needed the academic philosophy/environment at Yale. That being said, I in no way expected to get in, or even really considered it as more than a possibility.

I was rejected as a freshman, which just goes to show that it is more than possible to overcome that (even though I was a competitive freshman applicant). Good luck!

I know that Yale only takes 18 courses total that transfer, but would it be smart to take more if you can do well in them to have a hard course load?

^^Are you certain about the 18 courses? D1 took 9 classes, plus a lab, plus a P/NP ‘underwater basket weaving’ class her fr year, and I know she took a relatively light load her first sem due to dropping a course. While she transferred as a soph, if she would have stayed another year, it seems like she could easily have gone over 18 courses.

The only thing I’ve heard is that if you have over 2 yrs (no number of courses or credits specified) of post-HS college, they won’t let you apply as a transfer.
