Community College Units Transfer

I’m currently a high school student taking an online, credited 4 units at my local junior college. I am fairly sure the credits are transferable over to Cal Poly, but does the grade transfer over as well, or just the credits? I’m wondering if this counts as something like AP exams or my actual college GPA. Also, do intern employers look at Community College grades if you took them in high school? I plan on getting my Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering.
I’m really lost about this entire thing, and I’m not even accepted (or denied) yet. I’m currently under the impression that GPA is reset to 0.00 once first entering a new college and only the credits are given, but I also hear it depends on every college.
I appreciate any help!

If you’re taking classes at a community college in california: [Welcome to ASSIST](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>http://www.assist.org/) can help you determine if the class will transfer.

If you’re taking classes at a non-california community college, then you will have to submit a course substitution request through cal poly.

The community college courses will count as part of your college GPA.

As far as I know, high school credit will transfer credit, but not the grade.

It’s best to call the call poly college of engineering advising center if you are unclear on policies ( 805-756-1461 )

If GPAs transfer from CCs as well, then what stops students from taking easy courses at the local CC and boosting their GPAs? I always assumed that undergraduate GPA is calculated by courses taken at that one college only. It seems like an easy way to boost GPA by taking the classes at an easier school and getting the easy A.

My daughter took summer school classes. Your CP transcript will show a CP gpa and other gpa then a total gpa. So everything is separated out.

@codelunatic, nothing stops other students from doing it. In fact, it’s a common practice in a lot of schools for students to supplement their studies with courses from Community College to cut costs and boost their Cum. GPA.

Wow, thanks for the informative responses guys. I understand the process much better now.

One more question. If I decide to take the classes that are transferrable from the community college, does my community college grade for that class still transfer, or do I start over?
