JYM–Your brain is always working! But, we are currently Tulaned out, between school and sorority attire. Enough already (and sorry to hijack the thread!).

So she can buy stuff at 10% off, and resell it at a 5% discount?!?! :D

And this is why d is not a business major!

But of course I meant that she would donate the profits to some volunteer organization. Yeah, thats the ticket :)

Sorry everyone reading-- just being silly :)

What sorts of things do they take into consideration when giving out the community service scholarship? And how much is it worth?

Was the Community Service Scholarship supposed to be in our financial aid package? I applied for it and getting this scholarship will be a deciding factor as to whether I will attend Tulane or not. Are they going to let us know even if we don’t get it?

futurebound - As the title indicates, your record in community service plays a key role. Naturally that is somewhat subjective as to whether one person’s record of service is superior to another’s, as are many of the decisions in these competitive scholarships. Your academic record also plays a big role. They are not going to award the CSS to someone whose academic record barely qualified them for Tulane, no matter how strong their community service record is. At least that is how I see it.

I believe that it is still worth between $5,000 and $15,000. Whatever amount one gets, it is able to be added to any merit scholarship they get, up to the amount of tuition. I don’t think they will award you more than the amount of full tuition.

MichelleVM - No, it wouldn’t be in your FA package. It is not need-based financial aid, which is what the “FA” package is. I am not sure if they send letters to non-recipients, so keep your eyes here. Probably someone will either post that they got it, which will tell you notifications were made, or that they called the school and were told they did not get it.

Be aware that there are only 30 of these scholarships, so they are quite competitive.

Any news on community service scholarships yet?

I would think people would hear this week. I don’t actually know that, but it seems very likely.

Any word-- anyone??

we hear by mid next week.
i’m dying of nervousness, because this scholarship basically decides whether or not i get to go to tulane. and i really want to go to tulane. i basically did a scrapbook with my essays, two letters of recommendation, and a bunch of photos with my community service activities (being a hindi teacher, starting interact club at my school and getting it involved with habitat for humanity and a soup kitchen, working at our local hospital), a certificate for volunteer of the month at this elderly home, and then the back cover was how excited i am to do all this at tulane!!!
haha i don’t know why i just detailed all of that but i hope i get it. good luck to all of you!!!

They are really late this year! Sigh. Well, nothing to do but see what happens. Fingers crossed for all the CC’ers that are hoping for it.

I had emailed my daughters counselor yest asking him let us know one way or the other when the decisions come out. I said I knew that the bad news traveled slower than the good. I didnt mention that I knew from CC that the bad news didnt always travel at all.(very diplomatic of me, I know) He emailed me back today and said “we are hopeful that your daughter will receive a decision within the week.” Short and to the point.

Good luck, everyone!!!Can’t wait to hear!

I just received the Tulane Community Service Scholarship 2011! The letter and booklet came today from UPS Express! I was awarded an additional $15,000.00 in addition to my other merit awards! Good luck to the other community service winners!

Congratulations!!! Great news!!!
