Commuter schools- CSU or UC

These last few weeks I have been continuously brainstorming which school would be the best fit for me, if it would be better to move up north to Davis, or just to stay at home and attend a commuter school.

I've come to the conclusion that considering cost, convenience, varies Political Science programs, that it would be more feasible for me to either attend UCR or Cal State San Bernardino.

Now I always assumed that I would be attending a UC and that a Cal State wouldn't even be a consideration, UNTIL I compared the two financial aid packages. UCR is basically more than double what SB is offering.

From a pure financial standpoint alone, sure Cal State would be the best way to go but what I am wondering is, would attending a UC create more opportunities for grad school, internships, etc or since UCR is fairly low ranked would it be pretty similar to just attending SB>?

Any input much appreciated.

If it’s going to cost more than double to go to UCR, I would recommend Cal State San Bernardino. I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times, but I think it’s true: what you do in college is way more important than where you go.

If you can be top of your class at CSUSB, get internships, and stand out, you’ll be fine.

Mainly the UC’s are awesome for research opportunities. If you want to do undergraduate research UC is the way to go.

Otherwise Cal State is a good option for you and your financial situation.
