Are there any possible commuters here? I'm pretty sure commuting will be my only option as the tuition is already too high for me and I've been hearing all these horror stories about NYU and their Financial Aid (which I will choose not to believe until I see it). Anyone else from the city of new york or long island thats going to NYU by train/bus/car/vespa scooter?

yeah it's not that bad

do you think its harder to make friends?

nah, def. not. you'll just have a different lfiestyle vs. the dormers, the out of towners, etc. im from staten island; likely going to commute. where ya from?

im from queens

dying2live129 if you wanna chat

ill will definately chat, but tommorow...im sooo behind on all my work right now...its because of this forum

people say that as commuters you need to really work much harder to have a normal social life. my brother spent four years in his own studio and even then had to work hard to meet people. id imagine it'd be tougher on a commuter from queens.

I dont think it'll be that bad really.. I mean its not like a person needs a raging social life anyway lol Unless you do , sploosh o.o I think meeting people won't really be a problem. =/

Wait -- then again, I'm biased as heck since I love the school.. hahaha

i just want friends :)

diana if i go to stern, and you go to stern OH MY GOD! we can like...skip around and act stupid!

^ omg seriously and we can like visit whole foods and then eat in washington sq. park and watch hot guys together!

heres another similar thread I just came across
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=162235

whole foods is expensive, heck ill probably be unable to afford half-foods if i go to NYU
hot guys ohhhh!

lol yes, i know whole foods is a store

reminds me...people reccomend getting the smallest meal plan possible. this makes sense, as you can eat ANY kind of food you want within 30 mins walk. but who walks? its NYC, baby. public transportation is as automatic as brushing your teeth.

everyone walks o.o sometimes its faster than taking the subway.. cause the mta is alawys screwing up

matt: subways are dirty and dangerous, i'd rather walk above ground

I'm a commuter.... I've been taking the trains back and forth to NYU from New Jersey for the past two years. It is nothing like as bad as some people make it sound. I have certainly gotten well used to it, and I even like certain aspects of it.

Regarding the subway, Stephensploosh, it is neither dirty nor dangerous. And you will certainly have to get used to the thought of using it if you've got any plans of living in NYC.

I live in NYC! It is dirty and dangerous! When some nasty rusty water falls into your hair, down your back then come back and try to convince me that its not dirty. I remember when I was like 7 my grandma was taking me and my older bro to Macy's for their christmas show or decorations or something, and a guy mugged her (mind you, all at gunpoint).

Saying that the New York subway is dirty is like saying.. that a hamburger is a hamburger. Of course it is. Its logical.

But dangerous? I think that's rather perspective.. dangerous compared to Hicks-town Ohio or dangerous compared to other huge cities? You've gotta take New York for what it is- a HUGE city. Its absolutely ginormous, and its a given that there are bound to be at least some weird people in the mix.

Eh, yes, I'd have to admit that New York is "dirty and dangerous".. but still. I guess I've just learned to balance out its faults with all its good qualities. New York is so much more than the subway anyhow.

By the way.. where were you and your brother when your grandma was getting mugged?

we were sitting on the seats by the door (you know at the end of the car), and she was holding the pole and standing above us.....does it matter? were we supposed to help her? lol

well keep my original comment in context, when given with the choice of walking or taking the subway i'd rather walk

lets not try to go off on a tangent, I don't want to scare anyone thats applying to NYU (NYC IS SAFER THAN WHEN I WAS 7 years OLD!)

i'm posting here so that the Official Decisions 2005 thread will DISAPPEAR!!!
