Commuting and Parking

Hey all!

I've applied as a transfer for fall. If I'm accepted I will be commuting to Gainesville from Clay County...just over an hour. Moving to Gainesville is not an option as I have a child and raise goats and own a house here. So...commuting it is. I'm going to try and limit my schedule to T-Th or MWF so I'm not driving every day. Anyway..my question is about parking. I'm going to go ahead and assume that finding parking on campus is a challenge. I live in Gainesville for a few months, years ago and know that there is a pretty extensive bus service there. I wasn't a student though and had a car so I only used the Later Gator a couple of times when I went out. Are there bus stops throughout campus? Would it be possible for me to park my car off campus and get on the bus and be dropped off near my class? Any info anyone can give me would be very helpful! Thanks!

You can’t park anywhere near the classes without paying or being towed. You can buy a parking pass and park wherever it lets you and the buses run very frequently during class hours.

So if I buy a parking pass I can park in an area on the outskirts of campus and take a bus to my class? I haven’t really been on campus to much, but I do remember it being very large and the chance of getting a space near my class seems slim lol. Are there any sort of park and ride lots off campus where I could park my car and then take the bus to campus from there?

My understanding id there is commuter parking lots off campus and the buses bring you to campus. That is what my cousin does who lives in an apt.

How much time does that take?

He seemed to think no inconvenience. The buses run all the time so no real wait. Made it seem like parking not a problem in the commuter lot. But I really did not pay too close attention for I am living on campus.

That sounds like exactly what I was hoping for so long as it doesn’t take too much extra time. I hate fighting traffic and searching for places to park. I much rather park off campus somewhere that’s easy to get to and has plenty of parking and then get a ride onto campus and get dropped off near my class. Thanks!
