Ive recently thought of commuting from Riverside to UCLA next year due to some problems I’ve been going through.
What would be the easiest way? Vanpool, Metrolink, or by car? I know it’ll cost a bit of money and it’ll be a really big pain to do so, but for right now I feel like it’s the best option for me.
Any advice would help!
Well, I suppose it’s possible: http://newsroom.ucla.edu/stories/scenes-from-a-160-mile-commute-to-ucla
I would go crazy being on the road that much everyday, and it would obviously affect my quality of life and probably my grades.
I don’t know anything about your situation and whether it’s a financial thing or not, is there any way you could sublet or rent a room, maybe not in Westwood but somewhere that’s relatively cheap and would save time on the commute.
If you travel during rush hour, the commute will be 3-4 hours each way. In non-rush hour, would be 1.5 - 2 hrs each way. Easiest is by car. I can’t imagine anyway to take public transportation, unless you drove up to the metrolink that goes onto the 10, took it into downtown LA, and find some transportation from downtown LA to UCLA. In non-rush hours, would imagine that it would take 3 hrs one way. Not sure how van pool works. There might be van pool coordination at UCLA.
Driving, you could leave riverside at 9 or 930 for 11 am class (which would realistically have to be the earliest you took a class). Finish as late as you need. Drive back at 7:30 pm and arrive riverside around 9-9:30 pm. Rush hours are approx. 6 am - 10 am and 2 pm to 7:30 pm
Vanpool is a pretty decent option, but they usually run on the schedule of someone who is an employee at the university. So you’d arrive at campus before 8 and leave at 5. So you’ll need to make your hours fit that schedule.
