Comparing Colorado College and U of Rochester

I know these are different schools on opposite sides of the country. I also know enough about the schools to compare location, scheduling, size, etc. I love U of R, but it is practically in my backyard. I love CC, but it is a longgggg ways away. I was pretty sure I was going to go to U of R, but now I'm doubting myself a little. To be honest, I think it will ultimately come down to location, but I just wanted to hear CC's take on the academic and social differences between the schools. I also haven't visited Colorado College yet, but we are trying to plan a visit and hopefully I'll be able to see the campus before I make my decision.

Academics--I'm mainly interested in political science and econ. Does either school have the clear edge in terms of career preparation in these disciplines? What about public health/biology?

Social Aspect--How liberal are CC students? I'm a political person, and even though I'm a left leaning moderate, I'd like there to be a mix of political ideologies on campus. I don't think I'd love being on a campus entirely with counter-culture, weed-smoking, snowboarding hippie bros. Like I said, I've never been to the CC campus so I can't make an accurate picture of the "typical" CC student, so don't take this comment as offensive.

Prestige--This isn't too big of a deal, but I'm nevertheless curious. In NY, when I say Colorado College, everyone thinks I mean CU-Boulder. I know Colorado college is a good school, but do employers/grad schools know? Have people heard of U of Rochester outside of the NE? Which one is generally seen in the public as being the "better" school?

Research opportunities--Which school affords better opportunities for student-professor interactions and serious research opportunities, in the sciences and social sciences?

You really need to go visit CC and think seriously about how the block plan would work for you. It used to be known as a “hippie college”, but hey man, it’s 2011 now. The conservative collegeguide.org gives it a “green light” rating.

I sorta expected to hear something like that. I think the block plan is awesome, but CC is just so far away and they didn’t offer me that much $$… And U of R has NROTC, which is something I’d like to do, but CC doesn’t…I guess I’m just going to have to do some soul searching.
