My S is a Junior and is starting to look at colleges for his desired major of Civil Engineering. I am looking for some feedback on the quality of the Civil Engineering programs for his list of colleges. Here they are:

Northeastern
George Mason
UCONN
UMass - Amherst
U. of Delaware
U. of Maryland - CP
Rutgers
Rowan
SUNY - Buffalo
Temple
Drexel
Roger Williams
Syracuse
U. of Rhode Island

He is a NJ resident.

Thanks.

I’ll tell you straight up, Drexel is entirely overrated for engineering.

I am planning on majoring in civil engineering. Here are the good programs from your list in order from best to worst (bad programs eliminated from list)

U. of Maryland - CP

Rowan

Rutgers

UMass - Amherst

U. of Delaware

Drexel

Northeastern

SUNY - Buffalo

Why aren’t you looking into schools such as Penn State-University Park, Purdue-west Lafayette and Virginia Tech?

Sounds like Maryland, Syracuse, and Northeastern are your reaches. Have you thought about looking into Nova, I hear they have a great undergrad engineering program and are about on par with these 3

I thought Nova was more of a reach than NEU, Cuse, MLand but may now add Nova if it is on par with those three. Regarding VTech, PSU and Purdue. I left VTech and PSU off of the question as I have a pretty good idea of how their programs are but those two are definitely on the list. Purdue is too far (for my S not me, I dont care how far he goes)

“Sounds like Maryland, Syracuse, and Northeastern are your reaches. Have you thought about looking into Nova, I hear they have a great undergrad engineering program and are about on par with these 3”

Syracuse and Northeastern (and Nova) are not on par with Maryland in engineering.

I beg to differ Alexandre. Northeastern has fantastic faculty for their civil engineering program and in engineering in general that are distinguished in their fields and have incredible backgrounds. Maryland is not dominant in this field over Northeastern. I can’t tell you much about the other programs but i suggest you look at Northeastern faculty and their cooperative internship programs. They are a fantastic school.

Pierre0913 what metrics are you using to rank them in that order?
