Competitive FREE Summer Activities

So I recently applied for a STEM-related internship and, while I’m sitting waiting to hear back, I’m dubious of my acceptance. I’m already doing summer school with my high school, taking a class at a local community college, enrolled in an upcoming game jam, am trying to learn 3 new piano songs, am planning to travel a lot (to three different states) sometime in August, and have submitted to 6 literary magazines/newspapers/online websites. Without that internship though, I feel like my summer activities are still not enough. What should I do, and do you think I still need to pile on something else? From the stuff I already planned for, you can probably tell that my interests are in game/software dev and writing. So if I were to take on something else, what free summer activities/programs/internships would you offer?

“I feel like my summer activities are still not enough”

  • Not enough for what? What are trying to accomplish?

Since this is CC, I assume you’re asking about resume items for college admission. Schools aren’t impressed by quantity, so piling on shouldn’t be the objective. Find something that interests you and focus on making meaningful investments and significant impacts with your time.

Um, enjoy your summer. You’re going to burn out. You might can do a lot of different things, but chances are you can’t do them all well. Take some time to pause and just enjoy life.

I think you’re right. I should just focus on coding/school, piano, and writing. I always stress myself out!

Colleges want you to do something productive over the summer…you sound productive.
Getting a summer job is also a productive thing and I highly recommend it.
