Completing Igetc

at this moment i have 75 transferable unit completed and 30 more planned. my friend said that as long as i completed 60+ unit i dont need to follow the classes i need on IGETC. if i follow IGETC plan i need to take one more class which is humanities in area 3b. do i need to take it or no?

you have 30 units planned but none of them satisfy 3b? maybe plan for 33 units

well if you want to go a UC/CSU then yes, do it

^ don’t listen to these kids
I remember your major and the schools you are trying to get into. It was bio chem and UCD, UCI and riverside. You DO NOT need to finish igetc to transfer. Just finish your pre-reqs and you will be solid.
You may ask, Why do I know this?
I was a biology major before I changed to English and my academic advisor stressed that igetc did not have to be finsihed and that pre-reqs are more important.
Please, you have 30 units you have to finish up. Don’t stress yourself out more.

oh so igetc is not require? but if i dont take that class now, do they require me to take it later at uc?.

thanks for reply =]

awk, i wish he would have mentioned his major.

well humanite and art are in the same bracket of igetc. You need to take atleast one, if you have then you are solid. They will not make you take it once you transfers. Math and science majors have way too many pre-reqs and the UCs know that, so they cut them a break kinda.

It depends on which UC/CSU you want to go to, but you should at least have made progress toward completing IGETC; for a lot of them, the only absolute deal-breaker is if you haven’t completed the English and math requirements, but it certainly makes life easier if you have it done and will improve your chances everywhere.

@ collegeis4losers: what I don’t understand then, is that I’m looking to TAG into UCSD. Part of the TAG agreement is to complete the IGETC, so as a biological sciences major, I’ve tailored my schedule so that my pre-reqs would also fulfill the IGETC. However, I would be missing out on the O-Chem and Physics series + Calc II & III prior to transferring. I’ve been told I’d still be fine so long as I adhere to TAG. What are your thoughts?

I believe if you do what TAG is saying for you to do pre-req shouldn’t be a problem I think.
