Hi though the application deadline is coming to a close, Reaching out to the esteemed CC as last resort, that may be very valuable. The student is in CA, an “outlier” bright mind in general, and “I can not describe issue” that prevents him from focusing on GPA and running his own act/business instead. He is interested in the area of CS. He got Admission in University of Arizona for CS, no other result came. Going to apply to CSU (s) and some outside colleges. The goal is to be there in a “reputed” place where he will meet talented Kids and somewhat challenged, not rigorous. He is one of the youngest in the class ,may be that was also factor or not, but in his Sr year more concerned about Grade, much better, all A, or B+. This yr his ACT 1st try is 34. He runs his own startup in area of offering SW Services, cyber security, Sever hosting. Actually does not like what to be told, wanting his best , college options that can be best fit for case like this?? Outside CA is fine. THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR TIME.
ASU would be a solid program for him.
Consider the supplemental application for their Barrett Honors College.
The CSU’s do take ACT scores into consideration, but a good GPA is the first thing that they want to see.
Which of the CSU’s is he applying to, and which part of California does he live in?
SJSU and SFSU both have very good CS programs, as well the more highly selective Cal Poly SLO.
Right, applying to all the top 6 or 8 CSU(s). SJSU is very much GPA oriented and very competitive. I think more competitive for CS than few UCs. And as you noted, SLO is highly selective, and would not think would be that good fit for someone who can not help himself running sideshow.
Any interest in schools with both solid CS and co-op programs? Potentially Northeastern, RIT, Drexel?
Last year, CS was the most selective major at SJSU, needing an eligibility index of 4725 for frosh admission. The similar software engineering major required 4200. http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/impactionresultsfreshmen/index.html
Calculate eligibility index by HSGPA * 800 + SATRW + SAT_M.
Calculate HS_GPA using https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/ (use the weighted-capped version).
Thank you for the feedbacks! CS with CO-OP is an idea we will now explore…
