Computer science major in Purdue Engineering

I got accepted in Purdue Engineering , but the letter doesn’t list the major for which I applied ( Computer Science) Does it mean that I am not guaranteed to that course after the first year ?

@baiyers - The Computer Science Department at Purdue is in the College of Science, not the College of Engineering.

Also - all engineering majors are accepted as FYE (First Year Engineering). You have to apply to a specific engineering major at the end of your first year.

There is a major called "computer engineering within the college of engineering. You were accepted into their FYE program and will be given an opportunity to give your major preferences in your second semester. The more competitive majors will require better GPAs.

As mentioned before Computer Science is within the College of Science. Others can confirm this but I think Computer Engineering is more hardware based and CS is more software based.

CS at Purdue is in college of science, CE is in college of engineering. If OP is accepted to CoE, likely CE was selected as the major. CS and CE are different, they have lots of overlap in courses but CE has circuitry (hardware) and low level (machine level) programming. CS is high level programming like Java, Python, C etc. CS in general is more competitive than CE regardless of college it is in.

Does anyone know if a CS Student can dual major with CE? Or minor in it?
