computer science winter transfer question!

hey everyone. im thinking of transferring the coming winter to a uc (ill have been at a ccc for 2.5 years). i need that last final semester to finish up my classes. i really want to transfer in the winter because i want to graduate on time (4 years total). i dont want to go through an entire 3rd year of ccc because ill spend the winter spring and summer semesters taking crap classes because everything is completed and it seems like a waste of 2 semesters (or quarters wahtever)

for computer science, basically all the higher ranked uc's require you to take the final math class offered (in my case 270). ive taken or will have taken everything else. math 190, 191, 210, 220, but not 270 because by the end of fall the last class i can have completed is 220. and ill have all teh physics series finished. so if i applied to almost every UC, would it be that big of a deal if i was missing the final math class? most of the uc's list on their assist pages that that final math class is REQUIRED for admission to major. however on this forum i see alot of people talking about 3, 4 missing prereqs (thats the same thing right?) and getting into decent schools like UCI.

right now my gpa is 3.1995 including the non college credit classes. counting only the classes that are uc transferable, its 3.222. which gpa will the colleges look at? i know its not very competitive but im eligible (ucla has a 3.2 cutoff). and ill assume that my gpa will rise slightly over the next couple semesters.

so what do you guys think? is it not too improbable?

Good luck transferring during winter quarter, I don’t think any of the UC’s admitted people this past winter due to the budget cuts. It would be especially hard for Computer Science.

Wow, your situation is exactly identical to mine, creepy.

Anyways, round your GPA to 3.2, man! I think with that GPA you should complete every single prerequisite possible. Good luck to you this winter; I will seriously kill something if the UC I want isn’t accepting winter transfers.

thanks for the support! its just that due to the classes that im taking ill have finished every prereq except for the last math class. i hope i can still get in…

i been checking multiple uc websites for info on winter transfers. heres what i got so far

UCD – no (they said no last year but winter tag applicants were still admitted in winter)

UCM – yes (TAG applicable)
UCR – yes (TAG applicable)
UCSD – yes (TAG applicable, igetc required if using TAG)

UCI – unknown, ask UCI rep (TAG applicable)
UCSB – check in “late spring” to see if they will accept winter transfers. (TAG fall only??)
UCSC – check the admissions section of their site in “JUNE” to see if they will accept winter (TAG for fall transfers only)

also i was wondering specifically if anyone could give me more info on UCD transferring… im trying to apply to as many colleges as possible. UCD as far as i know will only let you in winter if you do a TAG, which means i would do a tag with them and apply to all the other schools and hope for the best.

i read a post from a year ago where someone filled out a tag for UCD winter, then when application time came around (July) ucd announced there would be no winter transfers. however since he already had a signed TAG for that winter, they had to honor the contract and accept him. if this is true then im going to try the same thing right now, hopefully i can get my tag contract signed before ucd makes a formal decision on whether or not to accept winter 2010 transfers. :)
