Computer theft at dorms?

I have a computer I built that I am considering bringing with me to college. I am planning to put it in an unattractive case to save space, so hopefully to anyone looking at it it will look like junk. Trust me when I say the insides of the computer are quite incredible.

If I keep it in my dorm room how much should I worry about theft? How does this vary for different types of dorms (dual, single, suite, etc)?

I saw an article that advised putting big stickers on the computer to make it less attractive to thieves – they won’t want to have to scrape of the stickers to resell.

You can purchase a lock and lock it to something solid. Also purchase dorm insurance, it is relatively cheap.

lmao, nobody will steal your PC for the same reason that people rarely even bring PCs to college in the first place. Nobody has time to drag a heavy case around to steal it. If a thief is smart enough to realize how much your parts are worth, they are most likely smart enough to realize that the many iphones and macs laying around unattended in study areas are easier to take.

I tend to agree with the above with one exception. Make sure that the cover on the case has a lock. Also since this is a desktop why not get a cable lock and secure it. I agree that laptops and phones are the bigger target,

I use to work at a research lab. My officemate came in one day to find that someone open his computer case and stole the CPU. So it does happen but I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.
