Concerned about Course Registration as Transfer Student

I was just admitted yesterday to UMCP and am verrrrry excited! That said, I'm a little concerned about course registration. I viewed the Fall 2014 course schedule as a guest and see there are VERY few slots open in some of the classes I want (like Calculus I). I know I'll get a chance to register at Orientation (I think?) but can new transfers also register online? I guess I need to take that math placement exam first haha...but geez...I didn't realize courses would be so full right now!!

Congrats. You have to wait to meet with an advisor in order to register for anything, but I’ve heard for classes like MATH140, they will probably open up sections throughout the summer. Sadly, pickings will be slimmer throughout the summer. My son did a relatively early transfer orientation (June 4), and ended up only getting some of what he wanted. But that night, a spot opened up in the math section he wanted and that allowed him to get the other classes he wanted as well. So he rearranged his schedule online pretty much completely. Once you have registered, you can keep an eye out online and move things around whenever you want. This is only going to be a problem this semester. As a transfer, you have more credits, and therefore get a higher registration priority than freshmen after this semester.

@lenmonster thank you! Very helpful, and congrats to your son as well :)
