where is the nearest concert venue to ithaca that major bands play at?

Umm...Barton Hall, which is ON campus. Last Sunday, we had Franz Ferdinand/Death Cab for Cutie play, though I didn't get a chance to go :(

yeah, this year was Franz Ferdinand/Deathcab.

The two other concerts this year were Third Eye Blind and also Lifehouse and Collective Soul. For slope day we have Ben Folds, Acceptance, and some hip hop act with a name I can never remember.

See http://www.rso.cornell.edu/ccc/pastshows.html for a list of past shows.

The list doesn't have slope day bands on it. . .last year it was snoop dog, and The Starting Line.

let me restate the Q - im not referring to the minimal things that happen on campus...i mean like a real concert venue that continuously has things...

searching ticketmsater seemed to suggest saratoga springs but thats like 4 hours away...

The Carrier Dome at Syracuse University had Billy Joel in March. In the past they have also had Bruce Springsteen, The Police, Elton John, The Grateful Dead, Rod Stewart, U2, Genesis, the Rolling Stones among others. Binghamton also holds big name concerts.
