Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas to Join USC Thornton Faculty

National Medal of Arts holder, Michael Tilson Thomas, will join the faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music. He will hold an endowed chair. Thomas, an alumnus of SC, studied under Ingolf Dahl. Since his student days he has conducted at symphony halls around the world. He founded the New World Symphony, won eleven Grammy awards and a Peabody award. He is also the holder of the Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et Lettres of France.

Conductor Thomas returned to the USC campus to conduct the USC Symphony Orchestra on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the USC Thornton School of Music.

MY GOODNESS! I hope he is not retiring from the SF Symphony!

He will be joining the faculty in August of 2015.

Some of these faculty appointments only involve making occasional appearances on campus, and I suspect this is one of those.

I certainly hope so.
Though conducting major students[ if there are any?] would be very lucky to be able to take classes under the guidance of MTT!

Music students may study conducting at the Thornton School of Music. Faculty listed for conducting include:
H. Robert Reynolds, Carl St. Clair, Larry Livingston, Brent McMunn and Sharon Lavery.
