I’m originally from Trinidad and Tobago but I was born in the USA, however I consider myself Trinidadian. Trinidad is a huge melting pot with people from all over the world, so I’m also mixed with Chinese and Spanish, but very little. On my mother’s side (can’t say anything about father), my grandfather’s (Trinidadian) roots mainly come from the slaves who came from Africa to Trinidad and my grandmother’s roots mainly come from the slaves who came from India. I say mainly because they have little mixtures of other miscellaneous races. What should I put on the application? I don’t consider myself Latino, Asian, or African American.
I have the same issue also being a Trini/Guyanese/Puerto Rican mix. I say Black, Latino (not Hispanic), Native American and Asian.
If you feel like your race can’t defined by one box, you should either choose not to report or explain in the “other” box/additional info section. DONT check a box for a race/ethnicity that you dont identify with just because you think it will increase your chances for admission.
