The UCLA psychology page states:
•A C or better is required in Psychology 10, Psychology 100A and Psychology 100B. A C- or better is required in the other preparation courses. All courses must be taken for a letter grade.
•Repetition of any preparation course more than once results in automatic denial of admission to the major.
•Repetition of more than any two preparation courses results in automatic denial of admission to the major.
I am about to attempt Statistics 1 (a major course) for a 3rd and last time but the previous two times are W’s on my transcript because I dropped it. Is this going to be considered repeating the course more than once or will it be overlooked because I didn’t receive an actual grade the last two times? Could I automatically be denied admission because of this? Thank you.
It comes down to whether or not dropping then retaking a class counts as “repetition” of that course and I would have to say that yes, I think this means you are repeating this course more than once.
You’re taking stats because it’s what they prefer for the quantitative reasoning major requirement, right? I suppose it means you could be automatically denied for this according to my understanding, but I wouldn’t give up hope. This isn’t as bad as retaking one of the psych classes twice which would be harder to explain. Also, there is room on the application for you to explain any Ws in your grades, so take that opportunity when it comes time to apply.
It is probably not a good idea to speculate or guess about this unless you are a UCLA official. The wrong guess may have significant consequences for the OP. I’d suggest calling the school on Monday.
^^^ this. The only people who know for sure are the ones that work at UCLA.
