When you take Writing 140, you also must also take your Social Issues GE Category VI class.

There are, of course, exceptions to this depending on your major- i.e. some Architecture, Engineering, and Music majors can take Writ 130, a non-affiliated course.

I don't see Soci 143gm on the list but Soci 142gm DOES count for the Category VI AND the diversity requirement.

To answer your question directly (changing your question to Soci 142gm), if you take Writ 140, Soci 142gm, you will get credit for Cat VI GE, Diversity, and the Writing requirement.

Soci 142gm- It fulfills GE Cat VI requirement and Diversity requirement. Most all students need to fulfill these as part of the GE program. If you are not sure if you have to fulfill these requirements because of your major, check with your advisor.

S2 just took this class last semester. It is as the description states. It can be good or bad depending on your opinion on how this is presented.

"No more than four units of credit (or one course) counting toward the general education categories may be taken on a pass/no pass basis. The writing courses cannot be taken on a pass/no pass basis."

"Race and Class in Los Angeles," "Los Angeles and the American Dream," "Social Problems," "Changing Family Forms," and "Social Issues in Gender" all satisfy the Diversity requirement and the Category 4: Social Issues GE requirement

Depending on your major, a required course might also meet the diversity requirement. E.g. for critical studies, it is CTCS 192. Nester - it's possible that's required for production students too, in which case it wouldn't matter whether your S can find a GE VI and the diversity requirement.
