i think you can only take one of the writing classes listed below the gen ed class you want to take. why usc requires only those over the others is beyond a mystery to me. but i remember someone saying at orientation that the reason this is done is because the writing class you take helps you write your papers for the gen ed class. however, no one was ever really helpful in that area; i also was curious as to whether it had to specifically be those writing classes or not. I just went "to hell with it", and choose one of the writing classes below it. didnt affect my schedule too much.

yeah ... i just treid and it didn't work lol ... its strange

Yeah, you have to take the writing class that is beneath your social issues class. The classes aren't too related (although it probably varies by class), but the papers you write will be loosely about some subject matter in your social issues class. I took Changing Family Forms, and I had topics for papers that were about modern vs. traditional families, whether fairy tales were good or bad for children, genetically altering the egg so that the baby would look or be a certain way, etc. Basically you don't need the knowledge of one class to take the other, but it will be loosely related.

Also, it's nice because you will be in a writing class with people that are in your social issues class, so you can get to know people well, or get help with homework or whatever.
