confused.....

Ok i made previous trends about my horrible grades at my community college im currently attending about a (1.8.....). And this year grades so far has been very average maybe below average which was a 2.3. Im taking a class this summer that is a Guaranteed "A". I want to transfer nest fall to a CSU because that is all i have in hopes of getting in.

I have to apply for transfer this semester by october im thinking. I heard you need a 2.0 before transfering does that mean i cant apply for transfer until my grade gets to a 2.0 or higher. Do i have any chance at all or should i just keep going to my community college for the next 2 years and try for spring 2011?

So your total average is currently below a 2.0?

I think when you apply your GPA has to be 2.0 or higher. And it can’t drop below that after applying. I would wait until you have a solid 2.0 before applying. Then again, I have yet to hear of anyone being declined admission from a CSU.

Ok now im even more scared My gpa is a 1.8 something because i have a 2008 was a very horrible time in my life. Im in a better situation now and i wanted to see if i could try and transfer. I have currently completed about 35 units and so far this year i havent done bad in any class. So does this mean i have to wait to finish 60 units before even applying?

You can finish the 60 units by the spring. You might as well apply; you have nothing to lose but money really (I think).

why don’t you repeat the classes you failed?

And how come you have a 2.3 after your life is in a better situation? If you are really struggling with community college you may want to rethink your path. Seriously.

hey hey. I struggled with community college.

No seriously, rethink. You should have at LEAST a 3.0 to even think about the UCs as a real option and by that I am just referring to the standard of work you will have to produce. a CC 2.0 just won’t cut it.

She did say a CSU to be fair (granted this isn’t the proper forum), but even then…a 2.3GPA at a CC AFTER you get your **** together is just…pathetic :(

^ Some people are less intelligent than others.

Apply everywhere you can afford to and get as good grades in Community College as you can. Also, I recommend using ratemyprofessors.com and pickaprof.com at every opportunity because it will help you find the teachers whose courses are easiest to excel in. Good luck to you in the future.

Just so that you are aware, some CSU campuses are upping the GPA requirement. I heard from someone that works at CSUF that they now require a 2.5 and CSULB & SDSU have very impacted programs, which require a higher GPA for acceptance. You need to see a counselor at your CC to see if you are even eligible for transfer.

I also agree with the people above that brought up the fact that if you are struggling at the CC level, you will probably continue to struggle at the University level. Have you considered trade school? That is a good option for people that want to work in a specialized field, but do not flourish in a traditional academic environment. Just a suggestion.

There is a trade school across the street from Pierce College. It is LAUSD so you know it’s good.

how come peeps with 1.8 gpas are aspiring to transfer to a university? Rita why don’t you just go to a trade school? No offence but if cc is hard then you don’t even know how hard life will be at a university.

I took a summer class and my gpa will be rising to about a 2.2 but towards the end of fall i will be at about 2.5 or 2.6. But trade school isnt really an option, ill keep trying for at least a 3.0. I failed 2 classes and had previous Ws that was why my gpa was so down.

Retake the failed classes and maybe your GPA will be ~3.0 and you can actually get into some places.

Usually Hijynx pushes his opinion a little much (okay well maybe in this thread too) but what he is saying is true. You have no obligation to tell us whether or not YOU think you can handle the cc work and then CSU/UC work, but it is something for you to think about.

From what I understand, it is supposed to be very, very easy to receive a B in a regular CC class with a remote amount of effort… If you now believe you can get a 3.0+ no problem, then good for you and you can control your future. If not, you might find that college isn’t the best option for you at this time.

hahah

The OP should be able to do whatever the hell she wants with her academic career and shouldn’t have to deal with jerks being snarky to her behind the veil of anonymity the internet provides. Good luck to her.

I don’t think anyone is being jerky, they’re being honest. Look at the OP’s GPA at a CC…it’s pretty low…now try to predict how shes going to deal with UC level coursework. If she does terrible at the school she transfers to, then she is wasting money/time. 2.3 after things settle down is NOTHING to be proud of, yo momma wont even put it on the fridge.

I may push my opinions, but I am usually right.

This girl belongs in a trade school at best. I am sorry, but if you struggle to obtain a 3.0, or in this case a 2.0 at a CCC…wow…

Not all people are created equal. I know it’s not politically correct, but people who aren’t smart enough shouldn’t waste their time and money trying to get a degree. Goals should always be realistic.
