Has anyone gotten into the conservatory yet? I am expecting the email within a day! Ahhhh!

I think you won’t get an email unless you’re international. I believe conservatory decisions, like A&S decisions, are sent by US mail to domestic applicants.

Do you know when? I know college admissions went out today, but cons. ones are completely different.

i read on the oberlin admin blog that the con mails out decision letters within a day of the college. if they didn’t mail it out today, they’ll mail it out tomorrow.

Called the Conservatory, and they said that they sent out most of the letters yesterday and hope to get the rest out today. They’re also only emailing international applicants.
Here’s a link you can use if you want to be really obsessive and try to guess when the letter’s coming: [USPS - Calculate Postage](http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm)

sopramo that’s so awesome that you’d even think to do that :)

Got in. $4000/yr music scholarship. Not gonna make a DENT ( parents’ words…they laughed and muttered something like…“crazy…”). Sad. Can’t go.

BTW, why does it say on the public website that the cost of attendance is $50K but on PRESTO it says $55K? Which is it?

chambay,

If you are willing to tell us your instrument or voice, we would like to add your Oberlin acceptance (and any other acceptances to music schools) over on the list that is being kept in the music majors section. If you would rather not be included, that’s fine too.

Sorry that the merit aid was not what you needed. Did you also apply for need-based aid? Sometimes that amount might come in a separate letter. I believe the cost of attendance for the 2009-2010 school year was $50,484. This is just about the time of year that schools announce their tuition increases for next year. If PRESTO has $55K, perhaps that is the 2010-2011 number. That would represent a very large increase, because most years it is about 5%.

Also, the total on the public part of the site does not include books and personal expenses, which were estimated as about $1900 for last year. If PRESTO is including those expenses in the total and there has been a 5% increase, then $55K would be just about right. Now that’s scary.

dear chambay,
I’m a high school junior who is looking at oberlin for college. I’m looking at the double degree college/conservatory program. I was wondering what kind of musician you are (vocalist, violinist, etc.) and maybe if you could tell me about the auditioning process and what you liked about oberlin?

I got in for jazz saxophone

How was the whole audition process?

We auditioned EA in December and I thought Oberlin’s audition process was the best planned of any place we went. Got to meet teachers at a reception, took tour, various students and staff gave seminars. Very informative. Lots of info over on the music majors thread about audition process.
