Considering Marlboro

I am Junior in high school looking to apply to Marlboro College and am curious if it will be a good fit, apart from actually visiting, are there a few grads willing to tell me if I am a match? The #'s are a 2.8 gpa (4.0ish this semester, bad gpa comes from a really rough freshmen and sophmore year) and based on my PLAN (28) and practice ACT tests I am looking at a 30-34 ACT score. I have not taken an IQ test because I doubt the validity of them and simply don't want to have any self imposed limitations on what I'm capable of. However, apparently Marlboro doesn't really care about those, and neither do I. From day one I have not liked school, but have read voraciously, often at the expense of my schoolwork. I thrive in a smaller environment and in relationships I prefer having a few very close friends to large numbers of lesser friends. I need several hours of alone time a day, usually upwards of 5. Once again why I don't like school, I simply can't be alone where I go and the library is a madhouse / a computer lab with reading material. My current academic hook is the life sciences, specifically microbiology as well as self-teaching myself Russian using a book and recordings from the library. Because I can't take the kinds of classes I want to fulfill these interests in Highschool, I buy used textbooks online for self study and supplement them with opencourse ware or other materials from the internet.

However, because of a really messed up family situation coupled with a bout of Major depression in both me and my mother, I have been lagging intelectually and socially from what I feel I am capable of.

I'm also quite skilled at painting landscapes in oil. I am quite proud of this.

Also,
How good is Marlboro in the Sciences? Based off of their grad profiles it seems they favor the arts heavily.

On their viewbook, it showed one student having several very impressive internships, is this the norm or the exception?

I feel it is also important to add that I have no intention of doing drugs, but am comfortable around them provided they are being used in moderation. My definition of moderation is being able to still function afterward and not leading to the harm of yourself or others.

Bumpity-Thumpity

Sorry I did not see this
If you are self motivated, like a small community and are willing to work hard to complete your plan of concentration, Marlboro will be a great place. My husband graduated from there and I spent a ton of time there (It was a school I applied to and was accepted to but I chose elsewhere because of what I thought I wanted to major in - regret that decision now, would have fit very well at Marlboro)
The school is very small and close knit. You have great faculty and access to outside faculty from places like Harvard and Yale. This school is not easy, but it it is unique. It rewards intelligent, off-beat learners.

My husband graduted with a BS in science and ended up being accepted to grad school at Yale, where he felt very equipped to deal with its rigors, and ended up with a PhD in population biology.

Go for an interview. Spend the night. It is a special place. You’ll either like it or not, but my husband and I would not exchange our experiences there for any others.
