Considering Transferring

I am currently in my 3rd semester at CSU Stanislaus majoring in Biology doing prerequisites to get my B.S. in Biology, and I would like to transfer to UC Davis. As many of you already know, transferring from a CSU to a UC is EXTREMELY difficult, and seldom does many actually made it through. But I won’t let it go just because CSU gets last priority for transferring. I would like to at least try to apply and see what they’d say.

I’m currently working to finish my General Bio, Chem classes to go into Upper Division courses and doing my GE courses. As of right now, I have approximately 30 semester Units, by the end of this semester I will have 45, and by the end of the Spring semester I will have 60~63 semester units. My cumulative GPA at the moment is 3.4GPA, I hope that I can bring it up to a 3.7GPA or higher to be more competitive by the end of the Spring semester.

The reason as to why I want to transfer to UC Davis is because I want to have a much more challenging education, a place where I can utilize my learning ability to its full potential and another is because it would help me later when applying to Pharmacy school.

So what do you guys think in terms of what are my chances of transferring to UC Davis from CSU Stanislaus? Even though I know my chances are low. But give me some thoughts on this subject. I will appreciate any responses.

I suggest you also consider transferring to the University of the Pacific. They accept transfers, and they have their own PharmD. program. They offer great guaranteed PharmD. admission deals to incoming freshman that also get them to the pharmacy school earlier. I don’t know what they have for transfers, but it’s worth checking out.

I don’t know how they treat transfers for purposes of financial aid, but this may be your best, most realistic route since you probably are NOT going to get into a UC despite your excellent record, and pharmacy schools are competitive enough that you may have difficulty getting admitted from your Cal State.

Good luck whatever you do.

Thank you for your input. Although UOP is a decent school, at this point, after hearing so much unpleasant news about UOP from some of my professors about the tuition fees, the atmosphere and basically it’s in Stockton, so I don’t think I will apply to there.

It kind of suck if I can’t get into UC Davis, and I kind of blame myself for this for not having the right preparation in High School, and so I didn’t apply straight to a CC or straight to a UC. But there is no point in fighting over spilled milk. I just have to live with it.

I’ll apply anyway and see. Haha

It seems like there’s a lot of early admissions programs for pharmacy. Bottom line from my reading: They are not necessarily looking for 4-year college graduates. It’s not like med school. Here’s an excerpt from an informative webpage ( <a href=“Admissions | AACP”>Admissions | AACP; ). I’m not sure how this would work, but it might save you 2 years and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

It looks like if you do some quick research, phone calls and emails, and keep that gpa up, you might be able to apply to one of these programs THIS year. Worth looking into.

"9. What is an “early assurance” program? How does it differ from a “0-6” program?

In addition to the “0-6” programs listed above, there are many other pharmacy colleges and schools that offer “early assurance” (also known as “early admission”) status for selected high school students. As with “0-6” programs, students who enroll under an “early assurance” program and successfully complete the first two years of pre-professional study, are guaranteed admission into the four-year professional pharmacy program. These programs are not categorized as “0-6” because the majority of students enrolled are admitted as “transfer” students after completion of at least two years of college. See Table 1 of the Pharmacy School Admission Requirements (PSAR) book.
