Has anyone been contacted for any interview yet? I believe they said they should be doing so shortly for all that have submitted applications.

Do you know if we have to submit the entire application to get contacted for an interview, or is it okay if our recs have not gone in yet?

I interview for Penn, and I don’t recall ever getting a request to interview an ED applicant before November 1st. Conversely, I have gotten interview requests weeks before January 1st for RD applicant interviews.

Remember the process to get an alumni interview is not automatic. Admissions has to get your app and process it, and then they send out an email to your local alumni chapter chair. Then that person has to select an interviewer. Then that person has to accept the interview assignment. Then the interviewer needs to contact you.

As most Penn grads are gainfully employed in full-time work, it might take some wrangling to open up their schedule. Therefore, even when your app is processed, which may take a few days or more, it will take a few days or more for you to get an email or phone call about scheduling an interview.

There is not as much push to get students through to an interview for ED as there just aren’t as many applicants. During RD, they’ll put people through quicker.

If you are not contacted by November 7th regarding an alumni interview, then I would have some concern. Penn tries for 100% interviews and gets pretty close considering the thousands of students applying each year and how the alumni interview process is decentralized (in population dense areas,

Admissions would know if you need the entire app to get an alumni interview. We don’t know :)

Thank you for the insight ‘rhandco’

OP please note that not all students get interviews. Also if you do not get an interview you can still be accepted. For example, my son who is currently a sophomore at Wharton got in ED without ever having an interview.

@rhandco thank you for your insight!

@Glennu though you can be accepted, I feel like an interview would help my case. Is there any way to ensure the odds of getting one?

@Glennu What were his stats?

@sirclutch23 : Penn likely operates like my Ivy. They are randomly assigned. You are UNABLE to increase your odds of getting one.
@puzzled123 The applicant’s name/contact info usually gets sent out only when the file is deemed complete. I don’t know what that means for Penn exactly however.

@aprieto43 learning about glennu’s son’s stats will tell you what? Penn rejected hundreds of kids with the exact or better stats. Your statistical sample is very poor here. Glennu’s son’s app grabbed the Penn readers’ attention. That’s what you should focus your energies on.

@aprieto43 I agree with @T26E4 in that knowing my son’s stats will not give you much guidance. He had sufficeint stats but something must have caught the Adcom’s attention. Remember the review is holistic so it is the totality of the application that matters.
