contacting the coach

hey
im a junior and i am quite good at tennis (4 years on varsity on the top team in our area), i was wondering whether i should contact the coach? maybe i should wait until i get accepted? i have no clue how to go about this, any help would be appreciated
I know they obviously don't need tennis players cause you know, everyone plays tennis lol...

If you're hoping to play tennis at Harvard, you'd better have a top 100 or so USTA national ranking in the juniors. Harvard has quite competitive teams, both men's and women's.

One way to pursue this is to email the coach and tell him about yourself. The men's coach is Dave Fish, and the women's is Gordon Graham. You can get their email addresses from the directory on the Harvard website.

male or female?

fill out a recruiting form.

male
i am good enough to be ranked in the top 100 but i am not because i dont play many tournaments, i guess i should change that, i still have half a year at least

should i fill out a form? they ask for a bunch of things, like SAT score which i dont have yet, im just a junior

Fill it in, submit it now, and update it as necessary,

Be "seen" this summer.

what do you mean be seen?

Tournaments, camps, whatever. I'm more familiar with lacrosse and soccer, and am not quite sure what the drill is in tennis. Call a college coach and ask ... they'll tell you.

yeah ill call him
I just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any negative effects from contacting him, but now that I think about it, why would there be?
Tournaments are definetly the drill and I'm going to have to get right on that.
thanks for the advice

If the coach is RUNNING a camp, that might be a clever choice to ad to your list!

do you play enough to get into any natl tournaments? if not u may have a bit of a tough time, but i'm not sure. check out tennisinformation.com, they just put up some college recruiting lists (in addition to the regular ranking information)

If the past is any indication, Dave Fish will be scouting at the SuperNationals in Kalamazoo in early August.

Ugh that just serves to remind me ive been spending too much time on academics and not enough playing tournaments. I think I really just need to talk to him because I am that good.

Make sure to contact the coach by this summer and express your interest. They can call you to schedule an official visit and all that jazz when the NCAA time has come, I think like June 1.

I think what I did worked really well--I was recruited for Harvard track/xc. I filled out a recruiting form during my junior year season. Harvard was my first choice, so I took an unofficial visit to meet the coaches in June. Then I took an official in October. Taking an unofficial visit pre-July 1st (when coaches can start calling you) really demonstrates interest.

Yeah, but my problem is I have no way of communicating that I am sufficiently skilled to make the team, and looking at their stats all of a sudden I'm not completely sure I can lol.
I'm just going to email him and ask what I should do.

Thats the diff between tennis and track. All sunglasses had to was give 'em her times, I assume. If you're fast, you're fast.

They have to be able to rate you vs the competition in some way, and, if possible, to see you in action. I have a feeling most coaches will take a player they've seen over one they haven't rather than rely on press reports, etc.
