Thread fail. Seeing some of you a s s h o l e s get in with those gpas p i s s e s me off. Some people are really deserving to get into ucla. people with 3.5+ gpas and poured their hearts and souls into the admissions process. I know I earned my right to call myself a Bruin. Some of you, however, I cannot say the same for. (ps. this doesnt apply to people who had understandable circumstances that prevented a high gpa).

My GPA is pretty high, but I have over 10+ Ws and I was accepted. Then again, I got TAP and Iām a non-trad.

soā¦

There is more to an applicant than just a GPA. Do you really think a student whose parents support them to stay home and study all day to get a 4.0 is more deserving than the student that has real responsibilities and still obtains a decent gpa? Sounds like youāre the a s s h o l e.

It is funny how you people think a 4.0 gpa means something. Maybe the people with 4.0ās who got rejected need to learn how to write a compelling essay and throw some good extracurriculars in there.

Yea whoops read the wrong column. Oh well I was trying to make someone feel better, lets just ignore the detailsā¦

GPA should still be the main determining factor by A LOTTTTTT. People shouldnāt be able to just write a simple 1000 word essay to make up for 2+ years of mediocre GPA. Having said that (Curb), Iām sure close to 100% of the people that got into impacted majors with relatively low GPAs did have special circumstances and extracurriculars.

iāll admitā¦i got super lucky. iāll definitely make the most of my time there, if i go there. still waiting on berkeley. i doubt iāll get in, but iām still curious to see if the admissions people are on crack again.

so far, go into: ucla, ucsd, and ucd.

Of course GPA is going to count, but you canāt just go through college without being able to write, so why would the essay matter significantly less for admission if itās important enough to spot the perfect student who canāt write clearly? To excel at both writing and maintaining high grades is ideal, but to excel at either one separately is weighed differently depending on type of school, meaning some type of art school, versus say an engineering school.

the first post made me laugh (:

Goes to show that admissions is nothing but a crab shoot. One of my professors in CC said he was an admissions officers at a College (couldnāt say for confidential reasons), but he said if he could be honest that he let someone in over another person on the sole reason of their name. It was two applicant he said that had nearly the same admission portfolio. He said that name was his daughter name who died of cancer. I was like wow! He told us never to stress about it and be mad because someone of a lower GPA got in because it was mostly random at time even tho many say they have a rule. Just do you best, and pray to god you get in. If you an atheist you SOL haha sike. Good luck to all fall of 2012 applicants much love!!!

Correct me if Iām wrong, but what would praying to God have to do with anything? Isnāt the decision in the hands of rational beings that purportedly possess free will?

Iād like to hear from engineering transfers. Whatās your gpa and what major did u get into?

Math/Econ 3.3ish

BTW, Math/Econ is not under the Econ department, itās in the Math department. So thatās why itās waaaay easier to get in compared to Econ.

Any Econ majors here? GPA that got 'em in to UCLA?

Iām wondering who out there got into a major that had calc 1 and 2 as pre-reqs but never got them finished before transfer? unfortunately, this is the boat Iām in, unless I somehow get them done.

I think ultimately it has to do with your major and your personal circumstances. Of course there are the few that got into tougher majors with lower gpas, but I assume they had some kind of situation that was not typical. I got into womenās studies with a 3.5. Not a high demand major at all, and I also am technically non traditional. Iām a little older (25) and was working 2 jobs for a lot of my community college career. Not sure if that helped me, but Iām going to assume it was my major that really pushed me. Another girl I met at orientation was admitted to WS with a 3.2.
